zx12r: popping the head off, motor in the frame
found out that the head won't come off if you have studs intalled. i planned on taking the head off to do some maintenance and inspection, but there isn't enough room due to the studs being too long. looks like i'll be dropping the motor again. or at least rocking it forward. figured i'd throw that out there before anyone else tries it.

AL,
when you have all the stuff ready to take the head off you are 20min max from pulling the motor.
MUCH easier to set cams, etc with motor on the bench!

yeah, just the connectors under the tank, and the two bolts in the rear. and then snaking out the damn alternator connector.
the plans were just to clean eveything up, port match the intake boots, and put it right back on. already got the cams where i want them. i also need to check to make sure i wasn't having any pistons touching the head.

AL,
you don't need to fool with the alternator; just unbolt the cover/stator, pull it off the motor and put it to the side, leave the cable attached. Much easier. (starter has to come off)
I put the tank propped up and sit the stator/cover under the tank.

if you do want to leave the motor in... leave the lower motor mount in and remove the top one... then the motor will lean forward as far as the chain will let it go... But be careful! take your front fender off... or as the motor comes forward it could hit the fender and break it.
sorry loosen up the bottom bolt so the motor tilts easy when you pull the top mount off...
