Oct 09 Texas Mile Updates and pics

I heard second hand the crosswinds are brutal.............30mph at times.

I also heard Dough ran in the upper 160's on BrendaSue's ZX-11
Karl has run 199 on the old green 00 ZX-12.

The wind must be rough, I hope it calms down this afternoon or early Sat morning when the temps are cooler.

Other than the wind the weather is superb, cool and sunny/partly cloudy.

Just talked to Karl. He went 201 and Doug went 202 on Karl's bike. Maybe vice versa. I can't remember.

He said after his run one side of the rear tire was scuffed and the other side looked like brand new. I guess he was really leaning it.
The wind is coming straight across the track at 30+ MPH he said. Also told me it is about 85 degrees right now. He said he is done for the day. Too windy. That's all the news I have for now.

GO GET EM TOMORROW GUYS!!!!

Sunday looks like the best day, wind-wise. Still, very respectable to run over 200 in those kinds of crosswinds.

wind at nearby airport recording 14-19mph straight crosswind, gusting to 30, many bikes not running in the morning more in the afternoon.

On my heap, i got 201.8, doug 201.6. Wind difference for sure.
Mike Hooks got 199.6 on a stock cc, built Busa.

I've been coming to the Texas Mile since it started in Oct 2003, and never seen this.

strangely the very heavy cross winds did not feel hard to ride in (other than being tipped over big time).

It's safe, but probably not for your first rodeo.

Sat is supposed to be better.

I'm figuring this is pay back for Loring's tailwind

Rich thank you, lost cash on my way to the Mile and Rich bail me out. I will pay you back.
Karl, it was nice to see you and your family again. 205mph with that wind, not bad. I will see you in March.
Brenda, nice meeting, you know that 1/4 is next. Keep in touch.
Mr.Meyers when I grow up I want to be like you. My pleasure meeting you.
And Team Fat Ass, thank you, will see you in March.

Sahne's bike 251
Dean on Turbo ZX14 226
9 Sec Jen 222ish
Karl 205.5 won the N/A ShootOut class
BrendaSue mid to upper 170's I think 177ish or so, but

Don turbo ZX12 199ish he has been 210+ before
Mr. Meyer on turbo ZX12 212ish
Ryan tech guy...........fuel pump went bad
Russ Big turbo...........head gasket
about 4-5 others had mechanical issues as well

Mike worked stock cc 08 Busa - 204 & change

Gary, great pix as usual!

next time you'll have yr bike , but won't have time for camera

I gotta thank Doug Meyer, Tim Chin, Jim Gilnack, Andy, many others for all the advice.

My heap finally is running consistently and fast enough to have fun and win me a lil money
I got a 205.5 with a 15-20mph direct sidewind, and 204 into a 7-10mph headwind

did a leakdown last night:
2 - 2.5 - 2 - 2.5
woo-HOO!!!! it survived nicely; thanks again to the guru's!!!!

In spite of the wind, this was the best Texas Mile by ... a mile.

Spectator turnout was about 3,000 maybe more, and organizers handled it perfectly.
A very large pit area is reserved for bikes, which is VERY cool. Thanks to Asst Race Director Ryan, sorry his Busa crapped the fuel pump.

I loved seeing Doug Meyer set up his ole ZX11 for Brenda, run it to 177??, then Brenda get on it, 145? 1st pass, low-mid 170's Sat & Sun.
Doug is an A-#1 class act.

Wow if you ladies aren't just impressing the hell outta me!
