CNC valve job or hand lapping?
is there any difference in power between the two? I've noticed that the CNC port work and valve job is almost double the price of hand porting and lapping the valves. I'm new to all this

Sorry, I was out of the shop the last few days. And the guys in the shop don't answer the phone. Shit they cant even here it half the time.
We have 2 versions of the zx14 port. And both can be modified to suit your needs for port velocity.
The valvejob we do is a total reshaping of the seat shape. We change the geometry.
Lapping is the polishing of the contact area of the seat (45 degree) which is a separate operation and for a different purpose.
In any case we are going to have a 3rd zx14 head in a few months for BIG displacement engines aimed to make big peak power numbers for LSR.
Stay tuned.

CNC Valve Jobs are the WAVE of the future. The Newen BB Contour CNC Single Point Cutter Machine is more precise and give's you a more better seal and a quicker seal of the valves...Man, I wish JIM would get one of these machines !!! He probably don't need one because he knows all of the tricks to get a better and quicker valve seal anyways.....

Actually I want a BB Contour in a bad way.
We use a Sunnen VGS 20 now and it works good, but its much more difficult to use and get a really good valve job out of. The carbide cutters have to have some rake ground in them and they have to be sharp or seat runout can get to be a problem.
The Newens are CNC so you program the profile in and it uses a generic single point insert style cutter to cut any shape you tell it. Its nice because you don't have to make a cad drawing of the seat profile shape and send it to Sunnen to have them make you that cutter for $50 each. We have dozens of carbide cutters and I have designed many custom shapes. So we could safe money that way.
The BB I think is about $80,000 I'm hoping a nice used one will come my way one of these days.

What do you consider to be a big zx14 engine?
