Getting Closer To The 8's It's been a month since my last track day, and I had another go at the 8's today. I still came up a little short.
Bike #9200:
Best ET of the day, Bike #9200:
The air was pretty good today with a density altitude of around 1000 feet. I weighed in at 222 lbs. suited today. I have about 6 weeks before the track closes for the winter, so I will hopefully have another go at it.
I'm pretty happy with the way I rode today. Consistency is very important to me, and I feel good about where my riding and ET's are headed. The bike ran pretty well, but I think I see some room for improvement there also.

shane,
you are purely getting after it!!!
GREAT consistency, keeping yr chest down as far as you can, front wheel lifting just a tad.
got a lil sore spot on yr breast bone?
what does yr rpm log show?, how fast are you getting to WOT?, that's the key, no rocking the throttle.

quote:Shane, by the looks of the mph, your not running race fuel right?
I'm running MR9. Here is my best big end mph of the day:
The mph on my bike is more about the shift points, I'm finding. I'm not really focused on my mph at this point. But still, yesterday's bests of 154+ in the 1/4, and 127 in the 1/8th are pretty decent, I'd say. Remember, this is a bone stock motor and I am over 220 lbs. suited.
The weather conditions are also a factor. If I can get a day like you had (below sea level DA and a tailwind), I'm sure those mph numbers will pick up. I'm also hoping to tune the bike a little at some point, the a/f looked pretty fat when I had it on the dyno. I think there is more hp to found.
But honestly, even though I know I can improve my mph numbers, I'm not going to make it my focus. After all, drag is racing is about ET and consistency. And in some cases, just consistency.

Karl, I've seen this kind of post from you before. Are you suggesting that I install my data logger?

You have to figure out how to get more MPH on the top end...Thats whats killing the E.T. because you are front halfing the bike pretty darn well but its not doing it on the big end. Maybe let Jim @ Competition CNC do the head work and increase the compression some and you should see 8.8-8.9 all day long with those front half numbers....Also a thin head gasket as well to complete the package !!!!

ah ok. yes, 127 and 154+ is what i was thinking you should be running with MR9 at this time of the yr.(i wish i could get that kind of 1/8!) my mph is affected by shift points too. if i dont rev the bike to near the limiter im usually down 2-4 mph. awesome runs for not being perfect shifts
hook up the damn logger allready lol. eliminate any doubts

Let's see how it does with a good tune, before we take it apart.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT INSTALL THE DATA LOGGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that lil bastid just shows you stuff you would bet $100 you are NOT doing.
(like getting in-out-in-out of the throttle to keep the front wheel down)

I'm going to have to disagree somewhat with Wreckshop. I think Shane running about the same MPH on his lightened 14 as I have on my lightened 12 is pretty good, considering I weigh almost 100 lbs less than him. It may have a little more with a good tune in it, but 152-154 mph on motor...stock motor no less ain't bad IMO.

Very nice mph of 154! Your bike is certainly making the power to run 8's. I typically run the same MPH in both the 1/8th and 1/4. Unlike what Wreckshop said you do know that your bike is clearly making the power. Work on you 60ft times thats the difference. With anything better than 1.430 you will run an 8. Nice Run

Just work on your 60' times and you will be in the 8's every pass. I was doing 1.38 - 1.40 Thursday night and running 9.05 on 87 pump gas. Weather down here is still shitty. DA is still over 2000 ft. Once we get a nice cool front to sweep through, the 8's will be back for me on pump gas. Gonna get some MR9 when it gets colder outside to see if I can break my best of 8.74 which was done in January. I've lowered the bike more since then, so I'm thinking I may be quicker this winter if I can get my 60's lower.

Pat, are you still sitting at 69"? How far back can you go on your arm? I am about at my limit now, just under 65". I only have 1/8th before the end of the arm. I may need to get the adjusters machined to allow room for chain adjustment.
I might consider a longer arm this winter, for a more aggressive setup. Right now my bike is still on the "street" side of chassis prep.

Thanks man. I would like to throw in my heavier springs or lock up to see if it gains mph, but I was so close to the 8's I didn't want to change much. Im think that when I do make the change, I will put in the lock up assembly. I don't want a firmer feel than the spacers give me now.
To change the springs at this point would make me have to re-adjust my clutch hand, and I don't want to deal with that this late in the season. It seems most people have been gaining some mph with the cycle logic lock up.

You can always bolt it up and try a few passes and pull it right off. A cordless drill or impact makes it real short work.
