On a Busa, right? The biggest danger for looping even a long bike, imo, is when the tire spins and then hooks. Very unpredictable!

My best ET's were often at less than best mph, but gearing as stout as I could gave best results.

Where I'm at is trying to gear it as stout as I can, and still get the throttle open and clutch out quickly with control (my main focus). All of my gearing changes, and tire changes, come down to about a 3 tooth overall spread.

Since the bike does triple duty, I have done a lot of experiments with sprockets and tires. The wheelbase changes are just this season, since I dropped so much weight off of the bike (and 18 lbs. off of the front alone). At 460 lbs it doesn't need as much gear as last year.

I guess it could be said that I swap sprockets nearly as much as you do motors! I really enjoy working on the bike, and trying out different things along the way, as I'm sure you can appreciate.

Shane

yup, i love reading about yr development and experiments

I guess i'm saying that when you have gearing as stout as it can take and get v close to whatever mph it will pull in the 1/4 at near the limiter, then stop changing gearing and concentrate on technique off the line and thru 330'.

Would 19/44 gearing be best for the quickest ET with a 75" wheelbase launching on the rev limiter? ANYONE?!?!

You should really go for the .6 psi turbo, and spin the motor to 14k rpm. That's the way they do it down on Nucleon St....

Your tail is too low, unless you do not have a lot of suspension travel......., I would be bouncing the tail off the tire in a heartbeat

Unfortunately I can't do everything I want with the bike with the current exhaust and oil pan. Ideally I would like to slam the front down and leave more travel in the rear of the bike.

I'm still trying to find the best compromise. I think I might end up raising the tail back up and trying to find a little more drop in the front...I'm just leery of busting the pan. It happens all of the time with the 14.

But I'm not really pressed about it....I have plenty of time to experiment.

1.75 is really low

raise the tail and get the front up to 2 inches, leave the rear a touch higher......

If you run on a good track its not that much of a deal,

That's pretty much exactly the way I had it before the changes. I can't get that arm level to the ground with my current hardware.

I think I will go back to what I had, with my adjustable links. It was proven, and I was pretty happy with it. But it never hurts to explore the options...

You can see here how it was sitting up in the rear more before:

Really, the bike worked great like that and there was room to soften it up out back. I think I am going to continue to use that setup as far as ride height. I'm just going to measure it again, while strapped, and see if there is any wiggle room to lower it more up front.

As I said, I wasn't 100% sure about the changes...but now I am thinking I had it pretty decent before, considering the pipe and oil pan clearance. Still, a worthwhile experiment just to see how it would sit. I learned another way that I don't want to set it up.

what are you looking for if i may ask. more traction to pull out harder or longest possable wheelbase to prevent the front from lifting? what happens first when you try for the 8.99? spin or wheelie?

Right now it wheelies coming off the clutch. I know I can get the 8 seconds as the bike sat, with more practice. The wheelbase is not a huge issue for me, but it just ended up that way when I changed the gear a little bit.

I think the part that a lot of the guys here are missing, is that I am not frustrated, pressed, at an impasse or anything. I'm just experimenting with the bike and that is a big part of the hobby for me. If I wanted that 8 second ET really badly I could have already thrown my nitrous setup on the bike.

I've been to the dragstrip 4 or 5 times this season, and I feel pretty good about things. Remember, the bike was basically all new at the start of the season. Obviously it might take me a little while to get it tweaked to just the way I want it. I doubt I will leave the wheelbase at max for long...it depends on how fun it is to ride.

I like getting the feedback and learning some things....and I do appreciate all of the constructive feedback on setup.

i my self would mill off the axil blocks some and try to go longer till you run out of room or spin too easy.i am going to get a 51 ot 52 rear sprocket ordered soon. i am not going to get to race this friday cause a truck pull that got rained out is now this friday also. it is my truck with my bros old engine a friend got from him. it is not a great engine but it now runs much better than the last two times we tried to pull it. here the cam was installed on the dots but someone dropped the ball on the chain kit machineing or cam cause on the dots should of been at 108ish centerline and they want it installed at 104 and it ended up at 112. no wonder it had no torque at all till 4000rpm and then it still could not rip a paper town tied to the hitch.now it is at 102.5 and it rips compaired to the other way.
