MCR2 Shootout Tire?? I was wondering if anyone has used this tire? My Power Race is almost done. Is the MCR2 the best hooking DOT tire out there??
I have put about 200 street miles total on the bike this year, so street performance is not a high priority. I'd like something that can hook at high psi. Since I'm pushing for the 8's by the end of the season, I might consider this tire.
I imagine I will end up with another Michelin, but I thought I would ask...

oh ok,the Power One and the Mickey hook great on a well prepped track but the nod goes to the Power One. It has been 7.20s and last alot longer than the MCR2

The Power Race Soft was even good to 211+ mph over 1.5 miles up in Loring, ME. No tearing or anything, looked great! The Power One seems to be very popular...and expensive!

The MCR will also work well, when a bike set up is off........., as in chassis, bad shock, etc.
I have seen the pilots on lesser prepped chassis bikes.., and they only work well, if the chassis is right......., in bad conditions, where a mcr, might have helped the situation.
My home track is real loose....., the MCR takes care of some of that.......

Track prep is not much.
Some of these set ups that some guys run, like Pat at 70 inches on a Pilot with a lot of air in it, would blow the tire off here.......
Even short wb guys have traction issues......

Sorry to hear that Nox...Im really lucky to live near awesome prepped tracks and MC2's cause mph loss due to the great prep...I'll keep that in mind now when I make certain comments!!!
Sometimes I take for granted that everyone has good tracks as we do here in the north east...

We have good tracks here, just not my home track.......
Thunder Valley in OK is great, and tulsa aint too shabby........., but, the MCR does not hurt me at those tracks either........
But, thats also like guys lining up Jr. Dragsters out of the groove to help mph due to the tires sticking too much in the groove........, you are splitting hairs.........
With a set up that I see most guys tuning, they change so much crap on thier set ups, they dont know what caused what...............

The MIchelin Power One is getting it done....yea I know the chassis is set up right and the track is well prepped, but for a DOT road race tire, this thing is bad ass.

I have a local 1/8th track that, as best I can tell, does not spray anything on the track on a T&T night. I could have had a lot more practice launching the bike this season if I could get it to hook up there.

Yeah, if you have the luxury of setting it up on a tight, very tight track that is great.
If you want to race on a loose track, or dew falls, or three is a drop of oil on the line........, someone with a soft set up that can hold anything is gonna pop you........., (non heads up racing of coarse)

The bike in the vid is set up very soft and stays planted as far as can be seen. Also, lots of rear suspension travel. Good video, thanks Pat!

I run a soft set up, and average .030 or better on the tree all day, on a pro tree.
I have seen guys run the Pilot up her Pat. It does not impress me on a loose track........
Now, at a good track, I think no issues I am sure. I am sure some guys at PMRA are using them, but no one with any WB will use them here, or if they have, it did not work well.......
Different conditions. Same reason you don't see many A clsss Stock eliminator cars are crappy bracket tracks......, 3500 lb car that cuts low 1.3s in 60 ft on 9 inch slicks with stock suspension, has to have SUPER good traction.
Like I said, if you run on a good track, use it.

Just so no one takes what I am saying wrong........
I have also seen guys with crappy chassis and clutch set ups, blow a MCR off too........
On a good track, lots of wrongs dont show up.........
On a bad track, you better have your stuff together..........
I love it when the track gets loose, and guys start complianing about the starting line........
It gives me an advantage.....

And to clarify for those curious, the new Michelin is called 'Power One'...its not the Pilot Power, and its not the Power Race. This is a whoel new tire, different tread pattern, and it freakin' hooks like glue. Best part is how long it lasts. Cost is same as M/T, but lasts as long as a Shinko or even longer depending on types, lengths, and locations of your burnouts.
I had a 'scuff' Power One, and put 180 passes on it. Just put another scuff Power One on today. I don't ever see me using anything else. Even on a track were racers were depending on Shinko slicks to be able to hook, the Power One performed flawlessly.
