trouble with lock up bearing insert (in the cover)
anyone ever have the bearing thats pressed into their clutch cover for a lock up come out? mine did on me for the second time tonight during my first little test drive. the first time, the aluminum piece that holds the bearing came out of the cover. i sanded it lightly, cleaned everything with brake clean, put some red lock tight on it and tapped it back in. that was last yr. this time, the aluminum piece came out, and the bearing came out of it. rounded the parts off pretty good and i had no clutch lever. i can clean up the aluminum piece and get the bearing back in, but how should i go about making the aluminum piece never pop out of the cover again? i wish the cover was aluminum so i could spot weld it on...

Loctite makes a bearing retainer compound that good for gaps up to around .015, I believe. It's pretty good stuff but I don't think it'll ever be as good as that new fit was. I've probably got a decent cover for cheap if you want to start over.

Scott we need pics. Is it possible to get a ball bearing in there to peen the end that it is sliding out?

How wide is the insert? Enough to hold it in a lathe and knurl the outside of it?

What would cause it to loosen up?It seems this would only be a symtom of a problem.

cover looked ok other than being rubbed. i cleaned it with hot soapy water then brake clean. dremmel'd the aluminum piece, pressed the bearing in with lock tight, roughed up the surface of the aluminum piece and pressed it back into the cover with lock tight. it sat in the sun for a few hrs, and will sit over night. no parts showed up today, so im really hoping they come tomm, or ill be racing with no lock up and 6 muzzy springs like i did in 07

scott did you ever get a bearing insert? if not i have a muzzy lockup just setting around that I'll send you the insert out of. till you can get a new one. i dont know what time frame your working with but if you need it. just pm me were to send it. i also have the rod.

I think Im ok for the bearing insert Brickman. going racing tonight, but i really appreciate the offer. parts didnt show up so ill be running a regular clutch with 6 muzzy springs this wknd
