Uk top speed and wheelie weekend.

Straightliners ran a 1 mile top speed event together with the Worlds Fastest Wheelie event at Elvington near York over the weekend and it was blessed with a 11 to 12 mph gusting to 15 mph threequarter tailwind that produced some good times with an exceptional flyer speed of 222.8 for Lloyd Davies on his 1600cc Big CC Busa and another 250 mph pass for Jack Frost on his turbo Busa.I managed to scrape into the 200 mph in a mile club with a 200.6 best on the 1375cc A model and a 183.3 on my road going B model.
Just one meeting left for us in the UK this year at Woodbridge in September.

What is the layout of the track?

I am confused about what a "flyer" event consists of?

In other words, what is the starting method, distance of run up, length of speed traps, timing method, etc?

Also, what is the typical climate? Air temp, RH, elevation etc?

I'm trying to figure out which USA event would be most comparable.

Both Uk tracks are old airfields and are a mixture of concrete and asphalt fairly good condition, straight and flat.Wood bridge in the South East is only a 100 feet or so above sea level and Elvington in the north of the country is about 300 ft above sea level.
We call top speed runs "flyers"and they are all run from a standing start with timing lights at 1 mile upwards to a maximum of around 1 and a half miles.
There has been more interest in running one mile speed traps the last few years but the lightly modified bikes like the longer distances.
The timing equipment is top line Tag Huer stuff set up on marks previously surveyed and usually comes out very close to riders own GPS equipment.
Weather at the weekend above was good for us,overcast but dry 18/20 degrees centigrade with a threequarter tailwind measured as above I would guess RH around 55% but I forgot my weather station so not sure.

Sounds pretty comparable to Texas or Maxton. Do you happen to know the elevation at Elvington?

From what I see online, it looks like it is right at sea level. Cool temps and sea level would make for excellent power.

I have heard that it is not rare to get the favoring winds in the UK venues, but we do get them here on occasion as well.

Also, Ken...

What are the fastest recorded speeds over there for all motor Kawasaki's?

As you may have followed, Entropy and Y2K's 12R's (1427cc) just went 222.xx & 218.xx mph at our new Loring, ME venue. We were greeted with vey favorable conditions and 1.5 miles of airstrip. My own stock motor ZX-14 went 211.97, without any power adder.

Right now, these seem to be some of the fastest all motor speeds obtained with Kawasaki machines of similar configuration. Do you know of other comparable speeds, or perhaps a link that might have some run logs and such? I know there are some very fast bikes and venues in the UK.

I'd love to hear more about Land Speed Racing over there, and perhaps some pictures/videos as well!

Congrats Ken12r for making the 2 club across the pond.

Thank you very much for posting up as well. I do not get over to 200mph.net much.

Hope they keep those 1.5 Mile runs going. I have heard enthusiasm is down a little for flyers.
