chamfering main bearings?

Seems like I had a brain fart and missed the discussion on chamfering mains.

Osti had good luck doing it, and my mains look like Ryan's "before" pix.

Any tips?

Karl - I was told by a good engine builder this is what he does on all stroker motors to help keep the bearings alive.

Got a pic? Is the edge of the bearing rubbing on the fillet radius on the journal?

i looked at several main shells carefully under magnification and could see no evidence that the sides of bearings are rubbing on the fillet of the crank. In fact i was surprised to see a very pronounced chamfer built into the shell, i'd never noticed that before. I then compared the used shell to a new one and they seem the same.

This very issue becomes EXTREMELY important on our SB2.2 engines with piston guided rods.

The connecting rods don't touch the crankshaft or each other at all. (V8, 2 rods on one crank journal)

The pistons are locating the connecting rod at the pin end. The big end just floats on the journal.
So you could see how a rod bearing rubbing on the fillet radius of the crank would be a MAJOR problem.

rod bearings look as good as they ever have.

I'm guessing i could re-use all bearings, but since I have some in stock, i'll replace em.
