Holiday Inn Express is that the new hotel they were building next to The Best Western?

Hey Karl, if you could, can you paste the Holiday Inn Express info on the very first page under who is running to let everyone know where TFA is staying. Thanks.

im skeered

No need to be skeered BS! I'm nervous every time I make a run but the cool thing is that the throttle works both ways. (btw, it always feels better after the first pass! ) Take your first pass at highway speeds to feel things out. Up it a little bit each time and practice your braking each time. The fun thing about this sport is that everybody is supportive and just the fact that you have balls enough to throw a leg over and run down the track is good enough! I've backed out of a lot of runs and when asked why just answered with " I wasn't feeling it ". That's an acceptable answer anytime and so far I haven't found one person in this sport that doesn't respect anyone saying it!

Do it at your own pace and do what feels right to you. Every pass that you complete is a successful pass and as long as you take your time and do it at your own pace you'll always have the chance to make another run! There's really no pressure persay in this sport. When the track is yours it's yours! Run it the way you want at any speed. It's yours to do with what you want at that moment in time, just do it your way & you'll do great!

Debbie
good answer, do what you fill good with, myself I am the olny one I have to please, having said that I allways try to make my first pass the fastest, that never works out,so I move on to the 2nd then the 3rd so on&so on

Debbie........thanks so much for the great advise, Now could you tell me how to tuck?

The best way to help you virtually is to go digital!

My best advice is to stick your bike in a wheel chock if you have one or on the side stand if you don't. Put all of your gear on, including your helmet & hop on. Get in your best tuck & have someone (hubby?) take digital pictures from every side. Take a good look. If you have anything sticking out you don't want it sticking out! Pay attention to elbows & toes! You want your head down & a$$ as far back as possible. Focus on getting your back flat. For the girls just think of what the guys like to see... arch your back, stick your a$$ up & back, get your head down. Best way to tuck & drives the guys nuts! LOL

Make sure you think you can ride in that position and you can see where you’re going! At first it's a little uncomfortable being that stretched out. I used to go out on the highway and practice holding tuck for a mile at a time. Best way to get comfortable with it. You also need to get comfortable moving around a little on the bike under power. You likely won’t take off in full tuck so you’ll need to wiggle down once you’re moving.

If you can't hold what looks like the best tuck then find a way to fill in the gaps. Don't be afraid to stuff the area behind your tush if you're more comfortable being further forward. You want a nice clean filled in line without opportunities to catch wind. Take lots of pictures and you'll figure it out. Once you think you've got it fell free post a pic or two & we can try to fine tune you!

Just try to stay small & you'll do fine! BTW, my first run down the track each meet is usually an anything goes run. 9 times out of 10 I don't even think to look at the tach when I shift! LOL My tuck is so so but the idea is to calm my nerves & up my comfort level while getting (re)acclimated with the track. After the first run I'm usually like Karl & in hell yeah let’s do it again mode!!! If you find yourself intimidated after the first run then just do it all over again. Don't be afraid to go slower while you get comfortable. Once everything clicks you'll know when you're ready for more. We all need to push slightly out of our comfort zone to progress but the idea is to not get in WAY over our heads! Don’t forget to practice breaking before the meet. If you get going way faster then you’ve ever been don’t forget you’ll also be stopping way faster than you ever have!! Not trying to scare you, just trying to prepare you! If you’ve practiced these things and practiced on the bike you’ll be riding then you’ll be much better prepared!

And just as a reminder, it took me 5 years of LSR racing small bikes before I even broke 100mph! Now I'm running over 200mph in a short time. Take your time, do it at your own pace and don’t forget to have fun! That’s what it’s all about!

You'll do great & you'll have a lot of support out there!

Debbie

Great advice Deb! Brendasue- I also suggest making a few trips to the dragstrip, since its right in your backyard.
You can get the sense of speed safely and learn braking in the same amount of space.
SAR's shutdown is the same length as the TxMile! so you will see,
however at a slower speed, just how much room you have to stop in. Trust me it is plenty.

Yeah that is a good point Halve! I found going to the drag strip got me comfortable with the acceleration. You can't achieve the top speed your looking for at the drag strip but you can get used to the acceleration. If you decide to do it don't worry so much about the tree or the launch. Try to hit a test & tune and just ride the bike and tuck like you think you want to at LSR. If you try to catch the light and launch you won't be able to focus and tuck. I found when I was at the drag strip I had to choose if I wanted to drag race or practice for LSR because for me, they're not the same kind of riding! Trying to mesh both just got me frustrated and I didn't do either very well! LOL

Brenda, take your time, be safe, have fun, go fast... stop safe and when it's all over tell me how much fun you had! That's all the thanks I want!

Gary, Todd's open minded about the TX meet. He probably won't make that decision until closer to the meet. As you see Shane will be there! hehehe We'll have to see how things shake out for the team leading up to the meet. I probably won't make it this time. Getting low on time off and the boss man says we have an install that weekend and do I REALLY need to be gone! lol. We'll see how things go. We change our minds & plans a lot so you never know!
