LSR in FL Oct 11

This is mostlikely old news to you LSR guys ..Last night i was at the drag strip and met Bill with the Bad assed Vmax and turbo busa ... His is truely a nice guy and as smart as they come ... Bill was at the track tunning on my friend Johns turbo busa ... He told me us FL guys have an up coming LSR in OCT 11 in South FL ... This is something i have wanted to try but i don't want to travel half way across the USA to do it .. Since i'm a drag racer and not a top speed racer i have a lot to learn about LSR .. But what the hell i need another hobby to blow my money on ..The bike will be mostly in drag race trim but for the gear change and safety items needed for LSR..As a drag racer i know speed only comes with a lot of work and great skills and i'm sure it's no different for LSR .. I know i'm not going to run 200 but i would be happy with 180s for my first time out ..Looking forward to meeting you LSR Guy and Gals and putting a face to the names i read about all the time on BikeLand ..I'm going to try to get Teddy on his ZRX 1300R and Tommy and Jesse on there zx14s to also come ..

Shane are you going to make this race in OCT ? Anybody else coming please chime in ..

Lee, I am not planning to attend this. I guess it is just kind of sudden! I don't know why, but I had not really seen anything posted about it in the LSR forums that I frequent.

I can't find your email address, you can email me: shane at warp 12 racing dot com

I'll be happy to give any advice that I can!

Shane

I'm seriously thinking about going. It will be kind of tight though getting everything ready. Don't expect to get my new head and block back until the end of the month. Don't know what I'll tell the wife. LOL She finds out that I want to see how close I can get to 200mph she'll have a fit. Anybody know what gearing I'll need for a ZX11 transmission pushing around 180hp? Lee, post up that website for the event.

I can't make it, but it looks encouraging. Not sure about the management, but they've got some time to figure it out.

Smokin,
I think you will like the experieince and with it being so close the money will not be too bad. You will absolutely be knocking on the door of 200 - with a good chance that you will top it. I have run 192 at Maxton and I am certain you will out run me. One of the issues you will need to consider is launching - no burnouts and bare pavement - i.e. no treatment. If your stretched traction is a bit of an issue - also I always run 45 to 50 lbs of pressure. ALso I never use straps on the front - as I want the suspension at those speeds. I manage the traction issue by using very tall gearing - 17/38 as I recall - It can run 200 in 5th. IT won't break lose nor will it willie under full acceleration on bare pavement. I used the same set-up at the strip so that it was intuitive at Maxton. You have both the weight advantafe for acceleration and a smaller aero package to the top speed,,,,, that is why I am sure you will succeed in the mile.

Kevin i'm thinking high 180s or maybe low 190s.. Shane seems to think 17/40 will do the trick but i also have a 39 and 38 sprocket just in case ...Tires at this point are up in the air on what i might use ..I'm thinking the 008 slick i have now may work well, it hooks on the street with lots of PSI ..I could be way off on my thinking and may have to use something like the power One Tire.. I'm leaving the wheel base at 62 ( my drag setup ) .. ..The high speed doesn't me worry me much but the shut down does ..This may be a one time deal for me if i don't feel safe about the hole thing after a few passes... Kevin thanks for the info, i need all the help i can get ... Smokin..

smokin,
i don't think you need to worry about shutdown, Milemarker-1 runway is 10,499' long, about 1 mile shutdown. Texas Mile has 3000' and we stop with no problems.

Keeping your target speed "low" is probably a really good idea. Everyone I know has done about 10-15mph lower than the bike's potential on their 1st visit to "the Mile". It takes some tweaking and getting adjusted...

Oct in S Fla should have outstanding weather, 80's v little chance of rain

The Texas Mile is the weekend following Milemarker-1's inaugural event so I won't be attending (this is subject to change )

If they hold a Jan 10, 2010 event TFA will be there in force!

Yep, I thought but was not sure if it was 1 Day. 1 Day might be a little rough depending on the number of entrants. Maybe just 2-3 runs if 60-80 entrants, 2 runs with 80-100, and maybe 1 with 100-120.

MPH depends on weather conditions, hope you all have a good strong tail wind. Be sure to take that 38 just in case.

If Jan event comes around, no doubt I know a few TFA members looking for something to do over the winter.

Re-read some of their info, It would kind of suck to be in group C. Florida time is strange for October: Sunset 5:30pm? Must be very close to the eastern edge of the Eastern Time Zone.

SCHEDULE:
9:00 Open to spectators.
Between 9:00 and 9:15 Group A will start run,
after several runs, Group B than C will run.
This will continue throughout the day.
Noon time runs closed for 30 minutes.
12:30 Runs resume through the close of day.
Course closes 30 minutes before Sunset approximately 5 pm

30min to Get The "F" Out!!!!!!!! lol

So far this event comes across like a car club having a lil get together.

Cool for them, but (so far) it doesn't appear like it will be worth traveling a significant distance.
