cut tank (and fingers!)

heres what i did with the spare tank lying around:

if i can find a welder it should be done tomorrow in time to race, if not, back on the 600

oh yeah, and cut off wheels spinning at 10,000rpm on an angle grinder are excellent at removing flesh. it doesn't cut, it just makes the flesh dissappear

Ive done that a few times. really burns eh? thats when you go get a beer and take 5 lol
Im very tempted to do a half tank this winter and move most of the stuff out of the tail to there. keeping the stock tank cover ect.

that would be nice, but im doing this to get low on the bike, i don't got no sissy 12" over arm to keep it planted

but a hideaway wet shot with progressive controller and retard box does sound tempting

Most people (At least me) cut out the top part of the tank and flatten it and then cut it out to match the Cut off tank then weld it up! That way you have the Locking Gas Cap that uses the same key the bike uses, I also installed the Fuel Gauge and hooked up the vent lines from the gas cap area with Fuel Injection Quality rubber hoses. Mine holds 3 gallons

not sure on the weight, im doing it for a good tuck on launch. since im back to SWB i'm busting out every trick i can to keep the front end down. after this i still need to get the lowering blocks installed, and then fill the front axle with lead. and possibly a few other dirty little tricks. kinda wishing i had a penske...

not too worried about the lock. the bike is either under my ass, within line of sight, or in the garage. if i do need to lock it up for some reason, the fill neck is the universal old school style so locking caps are very easy to find

les, it would be real good to coat the inside of yr tank after welding, it'll rust almost immediately. POR-15 worked well for me.

Move the battery up front as well.

There are some other dirty little secrets as well.

I wish I had a short arm to play with, I could do some stupid stuff now, at short wb......, but I may try to run super comp next year with a 7 inch slick...., not sure.

I am also talking with Bonnie and Mike, in hopes that a 12 over pro street tail will be made available to go with the new Pro Street tank for the 12.

In the photo at the left, I am at 68 1/4 inches (need a new chain, and actually need to go up a tooth on the back, but dont want to change anything right now) but look where the rear tire is...., this is a 12 or 14 to 18 or 20 over arm......., Jack had it built for a set back set of forks........

That is another option........

Tim Hays said he could do it......, I would like to have a set.........

cut off less than you think you need, then go back and fine tune. if you go too low you wont be able to use the fuel sender. once you get it open and can look inside, there is a metal support for the cap water drain tube. its in the first picture on the top left side. that is about as low as you want to go.

I cut my tank right above the sending unit and then level back if i have the time this weekend i"ll weld it up. your tank looks good!

i done mine last year using the stock gas cap. i got to do another one now. the bikes been losing mph. so i pulled the pump and the tank was full of rust. for some reason the 12 tanks are pron to rust. i'v seen a few 2000 12's with the tank rusted so bad gas was leaking out the sides.

i don't find that the 12 tank is prone to rust, excellent coating inside, but any welding will take off the coating, really need to treat it after welding = POR-15

Nox for you it may be about the Bikes Weight, but for me is was about "MY" Weight and the removal of the top part of the tank allows me to really get in there! Eventually I will make a Mold to send to Catalyst for a cover over everything that I can clip or Heavy duty Vercro on!
