Burn out (Newbie)

Hey dudes...

My boyz and me were discussing about what is the best gear to burnout before launchin' at the strip?...

With reference to Burnout 101 at dragbike.com and my common sense, the gear is 1st gear...

But my friends don't agree with me...

Excuse me for this 'rookie' question...
And thanks for your advice...

Never tried a 2nd gear burnout...what would be the point of that?

Much easier to get the tire going in 1st..and maintain around 8k rpm

I agree with you...

My friends claim that 1st gear burnouts treat very bad the gearbox...

actually I do 1st gear burnouts, but your friends are correct, 3rd gear burnouts are truly the best way to burnout, much easier on the tranny!!
and it does not take near as long to heat up that tire.

I do second gear burnouts - it gets the tire rotating faster without the need to rev it so high. Don't forget to get back into first though

2nd or 3rd gear burnouts are fine, lotz o' smoke, but make dang sure you are on some water if you do it. I do 1st gear smokies and don't bother backing into the water.

1st gear is easier on the clutch...I don't believe it's bad for the tranny either...

One thing you need to know about ZRXDean's set-up...He is geared to go through the traps (finish line) in 6th gear at 160+MPH

We are geared to go through in 5th gear at 150+mph and...we still do 1st gear burnouts...

Nuther thing...the tire will grow taller if you do burnouts in a higher gear so...you should rock the bike...side-to-side a bit...to heat the entire width of the tire...
