Ok guys, what can I say? Bonneville is by far the coolest place I have EVER raced at. I have raced at a lot of places all over the country. Drag racing and land speed racing. None of them compare. I got to see some people that I already knew and met a bunch of really cool people too. One of the highlights of my week was getting to meet and hang out with Jason McVicar. I met tons of cool people but in my mind(and others I'm sure) Jason is a legend on the salt.
Also I need to say a big THANK YOU to everyone here who helped me out getting this bike ready to go. I spent lots of time on the phone and lots of emails back and fourth with a few of the board members. Without you guys I wouldn't have had as much success as I did. Thanks guys!!
I made my way up the license ladder the first two days. I got all the way up to my "A" license and ran fast enough to go over to the long course. I was happy to get my "A" on an all motor bike with 7000+ feet DA. I'll never have to worry about my bike running 250mph so "AA" is out of the question. I think I could have got a few more MPH but the ride height was too low on my bike and I drug a big hole in my lower fairing. By the time I realized it the fairing was damaged to the point I didn't think it would be safe to race with it anymore. Oh well. Next time. We loaded up and headed home.
Some of the vehicles you see on the salt will just blow your mind. I saw everything from 400mph streamliners to 60mph 50cc motorcycles. Nothing like watching someone go by at 400mph on the long course.
A friend of mine asked me, "Would you like to go back and do it again"? I told him I was trying to figure out a way to go back in Sept for the World of Speed. I can't wait to get back out there and try it again.
I will tell people this...If you have a bike that you keep looking really nice and are proud of the way it looks DON'T (and I repeat DO NOT) take your bike to the salt flats. The salt is absolute murder on anything metal. My bike had bolts and other parts that were already rusty and corroded(sp?) by the time I got home. That was with cleaning the bike with Salt-X and lubing the chain after EVERY SINGLE pass. The chain and sprockets went in the trash when I got home. It wasn't worth trying to save them.
Lucky for me my bike is a rat and I don't care what it looks like.
I finally got some of the pictures uploaded. I have been busy breaking the bike down for cleaning. Here are a few pics. I have more to post but still need to resize and upload them.
Here is the sun coming up over the salt.

Here is a pic at the riders/driver meeting. I just stuck my camera up in the air and snapped a picture.

Here are a couple of bikes that are piloted by an 80+ year old man and a 70+ year old woman! They both go well over 200mph. WAY COOL!

Here are some pictures of my bike after I got home and started taking it apart. I am going to have to take it all the way down to the bare frame to get it clean again.
This is the undertail. That is my Innovate LC-1 on the left under all that salt. It stopped working on my last pass. I can't imagine why. I probably should have moved that before I went out to the salt but I didn't even think about it.

Radiator

Bottom of the radiator

Front of the engine.

Cylinder head

Inside of the front fender. I weighed it before and after I cleaned the salt out. It had 8lbs of salt stuck in there.

More radiator and frame.

Left fork leg. The salt line you see on the smooth part of the forks is from the bike being strapped down in my trailer on the way home. The salt is pretty smooth. Not many bumps at all.

Right fork leg.

Front wheel and axel.

That is all for now. I'll get more pics up over the next day or so. My first priority is to finish getting the bike taken apart.

DANG!!!!!!
I just was informed that #1 Son has decided to get married in Cartagena, Colombia on Aug 14, 2010, which I believe is the start of Speedweek
But, maybe I can "turn that frown upside down" and plan to do Loring AND BUB??
Ryan, what do you know about BUB???
