valve job, usual lash change?
generally speaking, how much would valve lash decrease from a valve job? using my thinnest shims (2.35s) i cant even get the 3 thou feeler gauge in on the inlet side. wondering what size i should pick up to check with. 1.75s??
btw, the ex side looks like theres a max of just under 6 thou variance between required shim sizes. i may be slightly off, ill know more after i get some shims and double check

I can't answer for all valve jobs but after my last valve job. I had to go between .006-.008" thinner on the shims. However my head had some slight damage that needed to be repaired also. All the valves came out about the same though. They were all sunk into the head about .006-008" more than before.

KZ,
Just "a touch up" won't hurt you very much. But, new seats or some cutting for a repair can give you grief.

KZ,
i'd put in a range of sizes get it close, say 215 - 195 - 185 - 175 or whatever you have
then put in all the same size to get it closer,
then put in the right sizes to get it right.
takes a good stock o' shims to use this procedure...
I wish you lived closer, as i now (finally) have a "good stock" of shims.

BTW
I have repeatedly seen variances in brand new aftermarket valve lengths (face to collet groove); max is about .006".
So even if the guy you go to for head jobs does a perfect job in cutting all seats to the same depth you will see variations in shim size.
