engine transporting
It is getting close to the motor being done. How have you guys secured a bike motor in the back of a truck so it doesn't bounce around?Conn. is not known for it's smooth roads and I just want to make sure it doesn't roll or bounce. They said they could wrap it up with cardboard but I want to weigh all options.Any experience?

Tire works well, or a simple 2x4 box...

I screwed a 4x6 to a small pallet, the 4x6 was to level the engine out under the oil pan, and ratchet strapped it down... worked well.

Me too. Strapped to a pallet. Worked like a champ.

+1000 on using a pallet.
small blocks to support it and bolt it to are a good idea, as is a strap of some sort..
i've used a box stapled to the skid as well.. a box big enough to encase the contents.. open the bottom of it and fold the tabs out, slip the box over with the top closed up and taped, then staple that bad boy to the skid and shrink wrap it.
keeps prying eyes from prying and keeps it safe and clean. a bid skid with the motor dead center will almost be impossible to flip.. they'd have to purposefully do that.

Pete,
Are you just gonna pick up the motor at the builders, put it in a pickup, then drive it home?
If so, it doesn't have to be upright on the oil pan. Tip it fwd onto a tire or a pallet.cardboard, strap it down. No drama needed.

Yep, old tire or pallet work great. Paint stores have a ton of pallets. I usually just put mine in the front seat and put the seat belt on it. I'll reach over every once and a while to caress it, just like my old lady!

sit oil pan inside old car tire and strap the engine to both siderails pulling toward the rear of truck.
Then close the tailgate against the tire. It's locked in for a off-road cross crountry run!
