Falicon crank and rods ?

Falicon is right down the street from me and years ago i worked with his Brother Brett Falicon..Since then i heard Falicon sold the shop to someone else ?

My questions >Are their welded stroker cranks good ? Does he do them in house or sub them out ? How good are his knife edge rods ?

save yourself some headache go to Marine or APE.
They lost the muzzy stroker contract, my guess would be quality since
muzzy had some serious claims at that time.
Also my stroker crank was cracked acccording to falicon, APE repaired the journal 3-4 years ago and it still has not broke. Falicon offered to not charge me for checking the crank
if they didn't have to ship it back, since they had already thrown it away. LOL.

Check other boards, Falicon has reportedly found many times more cracked cranks that nobody else. They also sell with a core charge.

On the positive side, all I've ever used in motorcycle engines (20 yrs or so) are Falicon cranks and rods, with no problems. In fact, I just got the latest one a month ago. There is (or was) no "muzzy contract". Rob used both and neither was without the occasional problem. Having said that, the occasional problem was hardly ever one of the quality of workmanship. They are both fine companies.
I suggest that you have your own cranks magged before you send them anywhere. Our local NAPA machine shop here in little ole' Bend Oregon charges $25 to magnaflux a small crank. Finding a crack BEFORE you ship ($$$) a crank is oddly gratifying.

A guy on the ZRX board had a problem with Falicon a year or so ago. Had a rod journal repaired. When he got it back the repaired journal was very rough, even to the touch. He sent it back for them to re-polish. Same thing when it arrived. He wasn't happy. They did my billet clutch basket with no problems and I know of others local that also use them for all their crank work. APE does good work but takes a little longer. Also heard nothing but good about Marine.

They can't be sending out all junk or they would go out of business.

I think APE sends theirs to marine also>>> : )
I also heard Carpenter was using stock rods on his 3x5 builds with good bolts.. and not a failure yet.... Holla @ Bill "cannons" he'll get you straight!!!!

Talk to a guy today with 2 cracked zx12 cranks (according to falicon),
Offered him the same deal waive charges to throw them away. LOL
I can't believe they are still up to that mess.
I told him to send 1 of them to Marine.

That would be a question for falicon.
Others where suprised to find how many cracked cranks falicon had discovered, when this can up on the psycho board a while ago.
I tried APE out of despiration, I could not believe my crank was cracked with so little damage to the journal. I was right.
I just hate I paid shipping both ways and Falicon to check it .

I sent my 12R crank to Falicon. It came back looking pretty nice.

But, my feeling with talking to them on the phone was that they didn't really do a whole lot to it for $600. Maybe they just have so much business that they don't have the time to explain things in detail. That's what I like about R&D transmissions...Mark explains to you what he is doing and why.

A funny analogy. At my work, we sometimes send large electric motors out for repair. Invariably, no matter how small or big the repair, they always come back with a fresh paint job. We can't even verify what was done inside. So, when we talk about sending these guys a motor, we say, "Maybe we should send it out for a paint job".

So, from that angle...I sent my crankshaft out to be polished. Other than that, I don't know what the hell they did.

I had a 5mm weld up from Falicon and it looked like a hack job next to my buddies 5mm weld up from APE (which is done by Marine)...

No problem with mine but I have read on .org and psychobike some that have had bad crank expierences. Never heard anything bad on rods.

Too bad no metrics are availble for a "true" failure rate. Could be Falicon has a higher number of reported issues because maybe they are doing more cranks than the other guy you may not hear the negative stuff .

The other shops sooner or later will. No company is perfect and I dealt with enough in my professional life both as a buyer and providing a service as we grew, new staff, equipment issue etc it happens , it sucks , even more so in the internet world...

Yes sir, even recommended for stock crank, even though the factory does it. I'll assume for high HP use though.

You guys are all grasping at straws and apparently have no clue on what it takes to repair a crank other than the hack job you have seen in front of you. You put it in a box, ship it away to CA or FL, and BOOM! A magical box appears with the crank you sent out, all nice & repaired. APE & Marine are okay if you like "Fisher Price" my first repair crank. The bastards at Falicon are strict with their expectations, and will give you nothing but the best these days (7 out of 10 times when they had that old geezer working there on repairs / weld-ups), even though they have had the propensity to drop the ball once in a while. You just gotta know who to ask for.
Also, you don't re-nitride cranks (you big dummie). They come from the factory this way and it warps the shit out of them if you do it again - after the crank has already been straightened! Check for runout on cranks you get from Marine & APE who do re-nitride their cranks. I'm willing to bet they are out more than .003+ Not acceptable! Shit! Check them all out for that matter- that's how you learn about this shit. If you've only seen one crank in your life, it's best to keep your comments to yourself and continue buying bolt-on parts from DiscountBikeShop.com
If you've done your research, you'll know to look for a company that can achieve a metallurgical bond to form with the substrate when repairing a crank, thus not needing to re-nitride the cranks. Also, what does it say about a company that welds cracked cranks??? They sure as hell don't employ any physics, and I would not want to have my crank come apart in two as I'm doing a pass on my +300hp Busa. Duhhhh!
