I see Dougs point,
I am dealing with a low compression turbo application, and thinking that way.
I am more concerned with longevity, and I don't need to squeeze every last gram of aluminum into the chamber like the naturally aspirated guys are.

Wow, you guys sure run the ragged edge...LOL
If I don't make a whole season on a motor, I will be running on the ragged edge of my budget...LOL

Its way more difficult to get parts in a timely manner in Canada too...

Dub,
If you purchase proper turbo pistons, all these concerns will be addressed as they will be configured for strength as opposed to max compression. Anything lower than 9.5:1 will make your bike a little sluggish off-boost, anything over 10.5 will limit the upper level of safe boost you can run.

Hi Doug,
I was not dissing anyone, infact it was meant more as a compliment.
The guys who push the envelope are the ones doing all the R&D so to speak, so I respect their opinions, experiences and idea's.

I have 2 sests of turbo pistons, noth are raised deck or compression height of 2mm above the top ring than stock, meant to be used with -2mm rods.

The JE pistons have very little metal with raised rideges to burn or break off wheras the MTC pistons looked slightly unfinished, and had some very sharp ridges only 1-2 mm wide and 4-5mm tall that looked very susceptible.

I like that that the MTC pistons have superior oiling to the rings, superior skirts, tool steel wrist pins, 25-30%larger machined rings, then the stock ones JE recommends to use.

The MTC pistons are also recommended to run .001 .002 piston to wall clearance, wheras the JE recommends .0030 all the way up to .006 ,

Oh and the great part was the MTC pistons were $100 less, and came with rings, wheras JE you need to buy factory rings and they are an additional $200

Hmmm, $550 vs $850.....

I really appreciate your knowledge and time.

In fact I would be willing to pay you for an hour of consultation on the phone.
What is your rate?

Seriously, if interested I would pay you.
My email is eldubois at telus dot net
I can pay by paypal, or mastercard

Thanks,
Lyle

Lyle,
I bet if Doug charged you by the hour that you could in no way afford him unless you are a very rich man because buying the kind of knowledge that he has could not come very cheap.

If you never ask you will never know, sometimes patience, appreciation and gratitude will go a long way.

I live in Canada and will never be a threat to anyone in the US sanctioned events anyway...

I was happy to help Duboius out and he was very fair in compensating me for my time and additional research.

I was speaking logistically.

You or any of your friends are certainly welcome to come up north and show us how its done! LOL
I am a quick learner, and yearn to be schooled, so that I may reciprocate!
I wasn't born yesterday, and I have stayed up every night studying.

I have met so many great ppl in the industry and sport, in fact there have only been a few who have been otherwise, I don't think anyone will be discouraging me anytime soon...

Thanks Doug!
I wasn't so sure you wanted me to advertise that your services were made available.... so I didn't.

You must have been weary of some wingnut in left field LOL...
I mean, I could have been some tool, with out any insight! LOL
I might surprise you yet ....LOL J/K

You were totally fair with me as well.
I have always felt you get what you pay for, and I'd only be a fool to short change you for your time. You went out of your way 2 times for me, a total stranger, and there is a standing offer! Wow...
That was a no brainer.
Thankfully your not the type to take advanatge of people like so many are these days.
Very much appreciated!

Solid info, and the confidence that follows it is so important!
Its hard to enjoy something when you second guess yourself or your equipment ...

I appreciate the offer, and definately will stay in touch, even if its just to say hello and tell you how things are going!
But, I am sure I will have more questions once I start tuning it.

I only wish we lived closer, so I could buy you a beer and hang out a bit!
What a fascinating career history! WOW!

Doug, you truly are a first class act on many levels!

this is what i was saying you are certainly right about. And I can only say that appreciattion and gratitude have gotten me more than I could have ever dreamed. I think you might have confused what I was refuring to because I of all people would not know what a threat in a us sanctioned event would even consist of. And I agree with everything you said about Doug, And first class act on many levels is just the beginning because he is more than that, he is the real thing. And since we agree 100% I can go back to my number one fan status, lol sorry if i was not clear at first. No hard feelings?

LOL, I think the edit times are screwed up...

anyway, its the internet, of course I am not offended!
Context and lack of expression can easilly be misread when its typed on the internet, I remind myself to take it all with a grain of salt.

No hard feelings at all

The offer still stands though, I still have alot to learn, anyone who thinks they know it all only proves their ignorance.

I won't be able to make it South this summer do to Contractural obligations with my business, but I certainly would like to, and am planning some LSR events and a some drag racing stateside for 2010.
This will give me enough time to get the bike dialed in, proven and reliable.
