Ya think?
Scrape as much out of the inside as you can get to. You need almost none on the cases. smear it on 'till you can see through it.

i wait till the motor is in the rear motor mounts to put the starter in, cause the alternator wires go under the starter motor mounting bolts.

lol.. lookin good man!! like everyone else said.. inspect the pickup after the first run.. i promise you'll have little chunks of gray yamabond stuck to it.

i use a razor blade and spread it UBER thin like Doug said. (you can use your finger tho too)and before case application i wipe the inside of anything that jumped off the mating surface and dribbled over a bit. i don't immediately torque to spec either.. i do a 1/4 torque and let the stuff set up a bit, then go thru to spec. seems to work well for the stuff i work on.

got the studs in today:

gonna hafta wait until this weekend to get a scale to balance out the pistons and wrist pins. unless i can find a local dealer to loan me one.

still waiting on the head. apparently the dude working on it has been stuck in a time warp. its been two days from being done for the past two weeks
already missed the race last friday, and i really don't wanna miss any more

ace performance.

stock size motor, but higher compression and extra revs. as for the work: valve job and mild porting. he's also throwing on the inconel ex valves, titanium retainers, and adj. cam sprockets that i sent him. the bike already has a muzzy pro pipe on it, and i'm adding on some bmc race filters and bear short velocity stacks.

i know its not the best setup, but due to my budget i got to do this in stages. the idea is to have everything built up so that later on i can throw in some 86mm pistons and have everything else done. in the mean time its gonna be a 1199 with some mean top end.

Very nice. For a good price on 86mm JE's give Mike at SAE Outlaw Performance a go. I think he sells them for a little less than 550.

Ultra Nem, Howdy! Hope things are going well for you. I am about to start assembly in a few weeks.

everything getting balanced

one of the wrist pins was 0.1g heavy and the pistons were within 0.5g from the lightest to the heaviest. now each piston is 262.8g and each pin 89.5g. even double checked them paired together and each set was matched with eachother at 352.3g

i was wondering, with the stock rings, do you assemble them in the block dry, or with some lube on them?

new rings? honed block?
i wipe the cylinder walls down with a white paper towel with a little bit of motor oil, then "dry" them out by wiping with a couple fresh paper towels. so kinda dry as you cant get it all with the paper towel, but i "try" to get it all

how does everyone else do it?

head on:

i know the last inch or so of the cam cap has to be lopped off to get a reading for dialing in the cams, is there anything else that needs to be done? i want to try to have all the cam timing done tomorrow and possibly have everything running on monday.

I'm not too worried about ptv clearance. its a very mild build. stock cams, stock pistons, still keepeing the base spacer, just using a .018 head gasket. this is my first motor build ever so im more concerned about the basics than building a close clearance top performance motor . when i get some pistons for it (and maybe some cams) i'll be running things a bit tighter and definitely be double checking everything then.

I use two stroke oil on the fresh rings and skirts. I HATE the idea of putting them together dry. It makes ZERO sense to me.
