Nitrous update - in the 8s

After screwing around for a month trying to get a handle on the nitrous setup, I finally squeaked into the 8s yesterday. Last Saturday I ran 4 nitrous passes, with a best of 9.06, 1.56 sixty foot, struggling to keep the front down in second. I had added weight to the lockup, thinking I would prevent top end slippage from the nitrous. I have tired OEM springs in it, and 3 back-to-back plate pairs in my clutchpack. I bumped it from 3 to 6 aluminum 1/4" bolts. The progressive box was set to come on .7-1.2 sec post-WOT, at 30-50%, and ramp to 100% over .5-1.5 sec. I am in the early stages of experimentation with tuning this system- I've had about 16 passes with nitrous over the past month. The NX nozzles are jetted 24N/22G, fuel pressure is about 4.5psi flowing, and I take out 12 degrees of timing when the nitrous hits. 64" wheelbase, 165hp on the motor.
So for Wed I cut the arm weight to 3 bolts, and it made a big difference- although unusual. My 60 foots slowed 3-4 hundredths, but my 330s picked up 7-10. I guess the slippage got me to full throttle sooner - and thus the nitrous came on sooner, and by the time the ramp gets from 50-100% the pack is tight and I'm moving. I feel lazy with 1.60 sixty foots, but if it gets me low 5.90 eighths, I'll learn to adapt. Actually I'm gonna add one more bolt to the arms and see what it feels like. I can also try cutting the onset time more- but I'll try the weight first I think. Sound reasonable to you guys? This is what having a hobby is all about.

These are from last nite in order - looks like I lost short time but picked up 1/8 ET.

Thanks guys, I've been looking forward to this for a while. New goal: 160mph

Kev I couldn't believe the 1/8 mph on the last run - I came out hard trying to get a better 60 and slipped the chit out of the clutch - got to WOT earlier than before, plus I upped the start % a bit. Woohoo! Sorry you weren't there- I knew you'd be psyched. Good air last night, and no wind. Nice job with the B-B-Busa, has Ryan run it yet?? How is the dry kit install coming? I need some competition

159.51 not too bad for a square-headlight breadbox, huh?

Dean

Bergie, I haven't had these jets on the dyno, but the 26N/24G made 83hp/63ftlbs, so I guess the 24N/22G makes 65-70hp/50ftlbs. It's hard to judge from mph, because I'm not in it at 100% from the start, but 16mph would work out to a 57hp increase.

YCIS - small what? You mean the ones in there now?

6.60s is damn good for a guy who grew up on Har-Harleys - WTG Ryan.

Thanks guys - I never planned on drag racing when I bought the ZRX, but I'm glad it turned out this way. Not too many of them at the track, that's for sure.

All you need is a little spray BA, hey that rhymes And YES - I am grinning and putting my finger on the button cuz it revs FAST when the nitrous hits. This must be what crack is like...
