He's also a pretty cool guy to rub elbows with on the track.

So is it too early to start with predictions? What is everyone shooting for?

You know, that's one thing I actually LIKE about Texas. The weather doesn't do anybody favors so results from event to event are more consistant and not skewed by a freak 15-20mph tailwind. Don't get me wrong, I love a big tailwind just as much as the next guy but sometimes it has a way of making superhero's out of average bikes lucky enough to take advantage of it.

At The Texas Mile... you've got to fight for mph tooth and nail with the sun blazing and the wind blowing in your face. If you can go fast in Texas, you can go fast ANYWHERE.

the runway is designed for planes to take off into the wind and there is a long cleared strip with a kind of gravel road at the end of the paved runway where planes can softly crash if the take off needs to be aborted.

No zone like that if we turned the track around.

that gravel/brush/grass crash zone has been used by a few folks who wanted to conserve their brakes...

BTW: when Mike, Sal & Dale came last Aug, we had the 1st day w/essentially no wind i have seen since the event started in Oct 2003.

ACE brought the 9/10's weather with em and i wish they'd come back for the upcoming Mar event!

Yep, plus if it were turned the other way there would be another active runway at the shut down run off. Many people have tried to have it run "backwards," with little success. I hear Mr. Guthrie is going to take a stab at it this time and try to persuade Jay and Shannon to turn it around. There has been talk of having a hot air balloon event on the other run way so it would not be considered active. They have also talked about running both runways one for cars and the other for bikes, but the other runway has a big dip in it that would be a little dangerous (great photo op having two wheels off the ground at 200+mph). I also hear Mr. Guthrie will be bringing 4 bikes (one being Charlie's old bike) to the meet and might also have Wayne Pollack as a rider..............................but, those are just unfounded rumors of a babbling idiot!!!!

I also hear that March 09 Texas Mile has reached the limit of 160 entrants, but you can still be put on a waiting list for those that back out and/or break down.

Yeah, Saturday was calm... too bad all our bikes weren't running worth a crap till Sunday when the crosswinds came around noon along with the heat. I would've really liked to had the bike fixed and dialed in on Sunday morning.. I bet there was another 2mph to be had with the cool still morning air left over from Saturday night. Oh well... next time I guess?

Maybe someone can bring Maxton weather to Texas and you can run in 65*F with 12mph tailwinds?

Rumor has it, you need to ritualistically sacrific livestock and throw virgins into an active volcano (in that order).

Or you can just PM him here like the rest of us. =)
