Glad they did the article. People think its SOOOO easy and always talk outta their ass about what they "could" do "if they wanted to". Something like this should hopefully open other people's eyes, especially for those of us getting it done in ONE mile.

I've ridden there. Low 190's on Kevin Erions CBR900. It's not an easy place. There are CORNERS. Yes, the straight is 2 miles, and you're rolling out of a turn before the straight, but at the end of the two miles you need to roll into the turn. You tend to back off a little early. I saw NIck Ienatch ride Terry Kizer's ZX-11 Turbo, I think he ran 232 and OMG, I think he entered the turn at about 190. It was a sight. Definitely got his attention.

Doug,
That's back when the magazines had the WFO articles wasn't it?
Nowadays every issue is a 600 or 1000 shootout. I really like when they had stories on bike build ups and stuff.......not just new bike testing.
And you're right Gary, almost everybody thinks it's a walk in the part.

240 lbs didn't help his cause. only 25 hp of nitrous.
That's not stacking the deck in your favor.
With a 140 jock and 50hp of spray, things would have looked much different.

Yes, Dan,
the UFO series was a lot of fun.Terry Kizer, Lee Shierts, Richard Sims, Kevin Erion, Matt Capri, and Me.
Sim's GSXR was the first N/A bike over 200 (205), My 11 recorded the fastest speed ever on the Willow Springs straight, Kizer's turbo 11 was the fastest motorcycle ever to run on the Honda test track. Those deals brought out some awesome bikes......
