Got it today Karl. thanks! the instructions are focused on determining rear wheel speed, and it looks like you have it set up with the gearing ill be using at the track allready 17 49 . how did you set up your LM-1 for it in log works?
so it seems like it it takes what gear the bike is in into account too. it does more than i expected. kinda complicated. im excited to try it and see what shows up on the log file one thing that may screw up the wheel speed(but not the slip) is the fact im using a lower ratio first gear. this will be interesting

I have forgotten more than i ever knew about set up, but i think i just determined the voltage output of the box to a gps speed,

something like

mph_____V
0_______1
100_____1.9

these are assuredly NOT the real numbers, but i prob have something somewhere, i'll look

cool. thx Karl. santa didnt bring me a gps, but Phantom told me what the best one to get on a budget is (cheapest one that records tenths of mph)

seriously, wher the hell do you find all this shit

i mean, slip calculations and all this borederline engineering shit you guys rattle off as if (i'm sure it IS) second nature.

i'm greedy and lust for knowledge. hehehehe

yeah, but if the gps reads 200, i want to make sure it didnt round up from 199.6 it can be a touchy subject without solid numbers for back up

most of my learning has been done on bikeland a few other forums. lots of reading, then experimenting(which involves smashing stuff). i learn new stuff everyday. i doubt ill get into slip calculations, i just want to see the dips and curves on the graph compared to rpm. my data logger has unused ports that read a 0-5v signal, im thinking of getting something to show oil pressure too. you should get one to play with. very cool seeing the playback of a run or drive.
im hoping to be able to use this to see how changing static spring pressure and weights on the arms of the lock up affect a pass. backed up by a time slip. it should allow greater tuning of the clutch because im not allways sure of what happened during a run, but the logger doesnt lie(it shows i suck at going WOT in first when i thought i was ok at it for example). i might even be able to tune a multi if this works after a get a basic starting point from Nox, but im happy with the single stage for now
I too am on a hunt for knowledge. damn addicting hobby! need to turn it into a job.....

Log from one of my runs at Texas in Oct.: (only first four gears shown)

I scale the RPM so it overlays the VSS in first gear. The clutch is slipping when the RPM trace is higher than VSS.

Divide the RPM by VSS and you get clutch engagement.

The launch with a cold tire on concrete is much different than at a drag strip. This was my smoothest launch of the meet.
The VSS log (green trace above) can give you a lot of information. Look at the rate it is increasing in first gear. 1 G acceleration is 21.9 MPH per second. Right at 1 G through first. Additional load on the engine from gear increases and aerodynamic drag make the acceleration very small toward the end of the track.

To take a closer look at things, you can calculate wheel acceleration in Gs. Differentiate VSS with respect to time, then divide by 21.9

At my wheelbase, I was only able to maintain traction to about 1.3-1.4Gs Anything more than that, the tire broke loose and caused a spike in the VSS trace. Next time I'll use a little less wheelbase.
At the dragstrip, its easy to pull over 2Gs. With a Shinko on a good surface you could probably get close to 3.
