Flite is correct. There is no need for band aids. Nitrous is pretty unforgiving, though. You have to tune properly and unfortunately there is little margin for error. Choose the best parts, start conservatively and tune in small steps.
Take a look at that valve. It looks just like it was cut with an oxy acetelene cutting torch, no? Well, it pretty much was.
You have unburned gasoline (rich mixture for the N2O) exiting the cylinder and flowing past the exhaust valve and you introduce the "oxy" in the form of a high pressure spray of N2O. Presto- a cutting torch. A little oil on the stem ain't gonna help with that.

Excellent info Mr. Meyer! Don't want to take this thread away from it's original intent, but that was my speculation on the toasty valve. Some others have said different things, but good info as well.

DM, Yes that was on 2 valve Air Cooled Engines. Before Spraying the 12 I used Valve Guide seals. But once I decided to Spray I felt that the extra Oil and seat width would allow more Longgevity with a correct Mixture. Nothing can (Including my engine) from looking like a Torch got loose when you are Waay off as witness in my engine. BUT Up to the day I made that Huge Mistake I ran for about 2 years and EVERYTHING stayed in excellent condition. Nothing looked distressed or on the edge of Dissaster.

Yes I will lose a few HP NA with the wider seats. Yes it smokes a VERY Little when I let up at the end of a run but no smoke otherwise. I also have flames shotting out of the pipe when I let off also that cools everything from the extra Fuel going through the system. The Whole idea for me is to have an engine that does not eat parts and can live at a High level of performance Longer than most people's engines. On that last note I have been Hugely successful!

Now to get the Idiot operator to set all of the controls "Correctly" from the first and enjoy the ride!
