Bike Wreck in Prescott, AR (ZX13R)

Shawn Covey, (ZX13R), went down across the finish line today at Prescott. He is okay, but has a broken wrist and ankle. It was scary, he had a 5.9 something dial, and the car he was racing had a 5.5 something......, glad he will be okay.

No, track was tight when I walked on it..............

From the looks of it, he applied the brakes too hard, but I was on the starting line watching......,, was not the time to ask him what happened......

Hopefully he will be back soon........

Glad to see that he will be ok.
I learned to stop hitting my brakes on the top end when one time I hit the front brakes by mistake and my wheel turned (skidded) at 150 MPH. I luckily recovered, but haven't hit the brakes since. All I do now is close the throttle to avoid breaking out.

It happens. My girlfriend Racheal had a get off after the traps at our local 1/8 track. I think she came through the traps at about 115 mph....and lost the front end in the shutdown area. Luckily her gear protected her from any major injury.

The scariest part is that they continued to send bikes down the track. Fortunately she was able to get up and off the track. I'd hate to think what would have happened if they sent one of those 150 mph cars through after her.

At any rate, glad you're ok!

Shane

Shawn,

It would have been really cool if you had won the race while sliding across the line...
But seriously I'm glad you came out O.K. ......It could have been a lot worse !!
I don't grab the brakes at the stripe just for that reason.....Get well soon. Roy

Yeah, they all looked at me like I was crazy when the first thing I said was "Did I Win?" LOL, it was a double brake out. I was looking at the video tonight and noticed a lot of leaves on the ground at the finish line, and you can see them start fly up right when i went down...

Watching the video, looks like you grabbed a ton of front brakes, the bike nosed over when you hit them. I think it would have done the same thing at any track.

Glad you are ok.

Glad your up and moving, but next time just drop and roll . . .
and don't try to get up till your done sliding

I've made the same mistake, only once and never again, my lesson ended better though.

Take the winter off, time to freshen the bike up anyway.

Heal up quick

i know what slideing across the end zone is like. at maple grove i went down due to a tank slapper caused by a tad bit of air shifting to 4th. hit the track at 130mph and ran a 1253 i think at 56mph ON MY ASS. the first thing i thought was this is not too bad. after i rode a H1 and H2. then it got fast and dumped me off. i stayed flat on my back arms out feet in front hands up. my crappy vid seams like it took 12 sec to stop and get up. we hit the wall and everything.(bike and i chaseing after it). i am glad there is not as much rubber from the 1000ft area on through.
all this cause mike said to get a damper and i did not have one. 1500 bucks later i have one.
i am glad you are going to be ok also i am glad we both have injected bikes. if it would of been my zx11c i would of been sliding through gas dumping from the carbs and maybe fire.
good luck.
