boost controll per gear
just wondering how it works? I think it has something to do with a few switching valves like you see on an air shifter. Ive seen a few on turbo bikes. how do they allow (for example) 5psi in first, 7 in second 12 in third ect ect?
just something i was wondering about
thx

We have an MSBC-1 on Racheal's Turbo. Basically, two solenoids and a pressurized gas (we use CO2). In a nutshell, you add or remove override pressure on the wastegate spring.
Some units can use your gear position sensor to determine the gear you are in (best, imo). Hers simply advances the counter every time you hit the air shifter button.
I'm no expert, so someone can certainly add more here...

that is amazing.
all this hardcore drag racing shit's new to me.. i have alot to learn.
i saw an "auntomatic" trans for the first time ever a few months ago on a turbo-busa powered drag bike. the first 4 gears were done by the controller at a preset rpm..
brilliant.
and now, this.. hmm.

Work? Absolutely!
Basically you have gear counter that controls a series of solenoids and regulators You need one for each level of boost you want. The counter tells a given solenoid to open allowing air the flow through a particular regulator directing that level of air pressure to the waste gate, either adding to or reducing the spring pressure in the waste gate. This pressure controls the amount of boost going to the inlet.
Good data allows you to set the boost to put down the maximum amount of power the tire will hold, and that the engine can take, in each gear. On a shootout bike for example, you would have the least boost in 1 and 2 so as not to blow the tire away, much more in 3 and 4 where you're hooked up and the air drag is not too great yet. This makes for a lot of acceleration in the middle, making the best of the engine's quick acceleration and the tire's grip. Up on top you may have to back off a bit because the aero drag and taller gear is really loading the engine and overboosting makes for broken parts in the lights. By modulating the boost automatically the rider has to "monitor" and keep it pinned.
This is essentially what happens in a top fuel or funny car except the boost is a constant rising slope (follows RPM)
and the power is added or subtracted at different parts of the run by varying the ign timing, fuel pressure, and clutch grip through the use of air operated valves controlled by solenoids and timers. If the crew chief gets it set right before the run....... Driver just keeps it straight and the throttle nailed.
