two steels- clutch question
has anyone tried using two steels side-by-side to increase the pack when the stack height gets low but the plates still look good? I'm running all 2.0's right now but thinking about pulling out one 2.0 in exchange for two 1.6s together somewhere in the stack... just wondering if anyone has tried this or not

I think I read about more than one person here doing that with the old lock-up or maybe it was a clutch-cushion, but I don't remember hearing of anyone trying it on the 'stock' setup. (stock design)
Why don't you try it and get back to us Bergie?? Heck, I'll even send ya a couple of 1.6's. :-D hehehe

I think KCadby recommends that.
He was saying that you could never get full wear out of the fibers with out adding an extra plate when the pack wheres some.

I have tried it Bergie and yes it works. You were right on my previous thread... those 1/8 mile times were 6.25'sto 6.40's...had a brain fart.

YEEEup...
You don't have to swap the 2.0...just add a thin one to the pack...
I just checked John's for the second time this YEAR!!!
I was actually surprised to find some "blu-ish" steels and some semi-cooked fibres
I thought I was going to have to put 2-2.0 steels together until the NEW plates get here but...after replacing a few "worn" fibres...I was able to keep the "thin extra plate" in the pack
It's probably good fer ANOTHER 100 runs now but...we will order a set NEW plates for when the N2O goes on (I'm installing it now)...
John has been running MID-9s(9.50s) with 1.60-1.58 60-FTs...not bad for another member of TFA!!!

I also simply added a single 1.6 to the all 2.0 pack. Works great!!!

ok dammit, I gotta know, how does that not increase the chance of slippage under a heavy load condition,........hell, especially using Nitrous (kevin/john)!!
Just seems to me that the two "slick" steels together have more of a chance of spinning against each other than a fiber against a steel.
Any comments?

There is no way the steels can slip aginst each other as they turn with the inner hub, can they? The fibres rotate with the clutch basket.??

You didn't ask me BA, but i will tell you,,,,,,,(smile) The steels have teeth on them that "lock" them with the inner hub. The Fibers have tabs that "lock" them with the basket. The movement is only between opposites.

Just make sure you don't do it until the new plates have worn some...if the pack is too thick...BIG TIME PROBLEMS!!!
