Oxygenated Fuels - What do YOU use?

I'm looking for some feedback/experiences with oxygented fuels. I would really like some before and after resutls. There are so many choices out there that it's kind of confusing. I'm looking to gain 6-7 hp over pump fuel...if that is possible. I'd also like something that won't destroy my fuel system if it sits in the bike for a week.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Shane

When I used mr9, it gave me 4 mph...

As long as you have at least 1 1/2 gallons in the tank, leaving it in for 2 weeks is fine...Make sure you have it in a garage where the temp is fairly stable, like a 10 degree fluctation is ok...

In sheds the fluctuation is 20+ from day to night, thats no good for oxygenated fuels!!!

I saw that MR9 is still listed on the VP site. I thought they were discontinuing it?

I am only going to put in a couple of gallons at a time and run it down and then run a tank of 93 through it.

Likewise Karl, good talking with you guys...even with the situation.

But do you have any data comparing runs under similar conditions and setup using pump fuel?

Yeah, years ago.

I have never raced without U4 since switching. Gained 3mph in the 1/8 mile when I switched. Look at it this way......., anyone else you know putting up that mph with stock motor?

When I switched, I gained 3 to 4 mph, and several tenths........, no need to switch back. I just richened up my map a hair from the old u4 to the new, like vp told me to, bike runs great........

Once something works, I stay with it.........., and as for the fuel thing in the jugs, etc, MAKE sure it is air tight, and it will keep a long time. I leave mine in the tank, in the trailer, bike will set for 2 to 3 weeks, no issues..........., jug is air tight, with a few gal in it. ets only vary with the weather.........

It sounds interesting. Sounds more friendly to the fuel system than MR9. What do they generally recommend as far as enrichening goes?

The local shop has the new VP "Streetblaze" fuel. Has anyone tried that compared to pump?

Yes, vp told me to add 6% to the map I was using for the old u4. Which was brocks map.

I did just that, and was back halfing the same, with the same mph.

StreetBlaze 100TM – VP’s newest unleaded fuel is well-suited for high-performance motorcycles, ATVs, personal watercraft and karts. Oxygenated with ethanol, StreetBlaze 100 meets California Air Resource Board (CARB) requirements and is street legal throughout the U.S. At 100 octane (R+M/2), it generates substantial power increases over premium grade 92 octane unleaded gasoline. Offers excellent performance in 2- and 4-stroke MX applications as well as off-road racing, including hare scrambles, desert and enduro racing.

Sounds ok for bikes, but might make no more power than 87? I have been running 93, and I guess I should switch to 87? I was more worried about running the lower octane at the mile where the bike has to pull 6th gear for a long time....

Will I really see more mph just going to 87?

Shane

Best bet is 87 pump gas...But if you need to try VP then get mr11, if mr9 is not available anymore...

MR11™
Recommended for 4-stroke applications where octane requirements are fairly low, e.g. Supersport, Superbike, Formula Extreme, Supermoto and MX. Delivers up to 6% more power than pump gas and any basic nonoxygenated racing fuel. AMA legal except Supercross and Outdoor Nationals.

• Color: Yellow
• Oxygenated: Yes
• Motor Octane: 90
• Specific Gravity: .749 at 60° F

no map changes

u4.2 =4 hp gain
mr11= 6 hp gain

This was tested on my 07 gixxer 1k
164 hp- full exhaust, bmc air filter, powercommander, pump fuel

same day, same conditions, no map changes.

Interesting note: bike leaned out around .6 across the board.
a/f ratio set to 12.8-13.0

At the strip i gained about a 1 mph gain with u4.2 and maybe an extra 1/2 mph gain with the mr11.

I have not tried MR11because it's been a couple years since we did a dedicated fuel test. Also, note that my tests were for roadracing machines, so we were evaluating a lot more than just peak power.

At the time, nothing outperformed MR9 in cool ambient conditions. (This was verified by an independent test in Roadracing World magazine a couple years ago.) Over 90F ambient, and you needed to take measures to prevent fuel boiling in the pump and fuel rail. Also, MR9 eats fuel pumps - sometimes at the rate of four or five per race weekend. U4 was good on top, but lacked midrange and throttle response even with a map correction. SB103 was kinda flat all over, as is U4.2, but they are inexpensive. I have heard that MR10 is better than MR9 and MR11, but it's hard to get.

Being a more emission-centric and cost-cutting fuel additive, note that ethanol will oxygenate a fuel at the expense of the fuel's energy density. Sure, you can add more fuel to compensate for the oxygenate, but you won't be able to compensate for the lack of energy potential in the fuel.

There are some very exotic fuels that don't rely on oxygenates to produce power, but they tend to be very expensive. If you guys thought the surface-gap plugs I referenced the another thread were expensive, consider paying about the same per gallon of fuel!
