MTC lock up shims

I have 2 packets of shims(.025, .050) for the MTC lock up.Do these have any effect on the launch or are they just to get the right stack height? I'm going to start off running only 4 springs.

They affect several things, stack height being none of them........

I can adjust my 60` times by just replacing my shims, .025 at a time,on the #of springs in my zx12 lockup.....Are those the ones your talking about, the ones that go on the springs????

Yes I've heard of you guys talking about static pressure. How do you measure the springs pressure?

theres a special tool for it, or ask Nox
shims increase the static spring pressure(like when you crank down on the spring in the rear shock to stiffen up the suspension)
What springs do you have? stock, mtc, muzzy,?

You can make it........., for about 3 bucks.

You just need a valve spring tester after that, one of the ones that goes in a vice.........

I have the measurements on most of the springs that are used in a zx12 application, as well as some 1000s, and 14s.

Is this the sort of spring tester you are talking about? I didn't know if they would be accurate enough to test clutch springs...

I've been putting off getting a spring tester because the nice ones I see are at least a couple hundred dollars. If something like this works well enough, I'll go ahead and order one...

Well that is what got me thinking as to getting a lock up.MTC should be at Atco this weekend and between picking their brains and other racers,I hope to get some more knowledge.Hopefully the weather will hold out. Orient Express is having a seminar at their site on MSD sb-6 ignition module.

Yeah, MTC will only tell you which direction to go...... that is all they know.

They do not know how far to go. Good luck getting a great tune up from someone else........

ZX12s are rare. We are the few and proud.......lol

While you are picking thier brains, you could have it already right...........

MTC never helped me with anything. They make GREAT products, but as far as knowing what works in certain applications, they do not know........, becasuse no one tells them once they find it...........

I quit calling them years ago, unless I need parts...........

There are proven set ups working..........., but MTC sends you in a way different direction, and we have all proven that it does not work.

Best of luck to you though.

1.5s. I did 1.4s at 64inches, with no pc, and a single stage clutch, stock shock kicked my butt..........Your body weight may be a good thing.

Try to think outside the box. Thats my best advice without giving away secrets.

He he.

Thats why when I get guys clutches lined out, I tell them to cover it with a towel so no one will see it , or shut the trailer doors............

I write on mine, so it lookes like I have a different tune up than what is in it.........lol

Well, judging by your comment just looking at the clutch, you can see how many springs I had and weights on the arms. You cannot see which springs I used. I don't know if anyone has tried using more then one set of steels back to back to lessen friction surface which would allow more slip.
How has everyone cut back the fairing to give the clutch housing more room?A hot knife used by the model car builders?

Dremel, or a cutting wheel on a drill. Sand it after, works good. I did it on stock plastics. Worked fine, looks fine.

Don't stack steels. That is the wrong fix to an easy fix.

Also, you have seen my rants. This is the last free advice. Use a STOCK set up, all of it. ALL of it. No left over parts.
