Racheal Wins Bracket Racing Championship!
We spent all day at MIR yesterday, running Racheal's Gixxer. Each of us did pretty well, setting new personal bests in ET and 60 ft. on her bike:

The bike needed some more gear, so we changed out the countershaft sprocket at the track. I did fairly well, running a 9.96 and several 1.60-61 60 fts. The bike just doesn't like hauling my weight down the big end of the track. Even with equal 330 ft. times, I still come up .2-.3 slower than Racheal. I think that is directly attributable to the 70 lb. suited weight difference.
The gearing really, really improved Racheals times. She ran a number of 9.7's. Her times were very consistent and her best was a pair of 9.72's. Her 60 ft's were in the 1.6's most of the day with a personal best of 1.600. MPH was down by several for both of us. The air was pretty bad, and we didn't have the lowers on the bike. I suspect the lowers were costing us a couple of mph on their own.
The real capper for the day was the bracket race showdown. Everyone in the class engaged in the fierce competition. We started with 3-4 runs each...just to get a feel for technique and setting our dial-in's. I was struggling for consistency and by the time we started eliminations I was shooting in the dark as far as my dial-in. I managed to claim a first round victory, as did Racheal. Sadly, I was eliminated in the next round...running about .12 slower than my dial.
Racheal on the other hand, was progressing well. Up to this point she had not lost a single match-up...even in the practice runs. But she was on a collision course with one of the other jockey's...and he was seemingly unbeatable...a bracket racing machine.
As the drama mounted, the other competitors were taken out methodically. Racheal was somehow managing to stay in the competition, but she had yet to face this devourer of souls, this terminator of bracket racing dreams....
I watched them line up. There was an unnerving calm...a quiet before the storm. A tumbleweed rolled across the track and then fury erupted. She seemed to be destined to lose as it was obvious she had cut a much worse light.....but wait, there was hope yet...her rival had red-lighted!! She still gave the run all she had, and ran a scant .04 over her dial.
She won the competition, and never lost a single round...not even in practice. Here she is with her hard-won trophy:

We'd like to thank everyone who helped her achieve her dream, especially Rick and Jason. They have been helping us along at each seminar and bearing with us while we slowly improve....and there is no question that it was key in Racheal's victory.
See you on the 8th of August!
Shane
PS. The bracket racing was done using track-supplied scooters.

Well done Racheal!
I know the both of you have been working hard and it's paid off. I'm sure with Rick there it's a big help as he knows his stuff.
It's great to see a couple share an interest and to do well at it is a bonus.
See you guys next month at Maxton and I'm looking forward to some big numbers there from you two as well.

We're waiting on some pics to hopefully show up in our email box. It really was a blast!
Reminds me of the last bracket race I ran against Todd...at the Bikeland event last year:

About as close as you can get...he ran 10.131 on a 10.13 dial, and I ran 10.351 on a 10.35 dial. Fortunately I beat him at the tree!

Thanks Dan! Yeah, she did a great job. That little scooter race was the most fun we've had at the track this year, I think. You know how sometimes the drive to improve can spoil the fun?
We're very much looking forward to Maxton also.

Close is right, but you've always been better on the reaction time for sure.

Congrats on the win Racheal and to both of you on another sucessful weekend. Cool pic holding the trophy.. should of got a pic doing a burnout on the scooter to go with it :-)
