fuel pressure regulator: why vac line?

anyone understand how it works?

Today i'm gonna experiment with the fp regulator, cause mine is acting flaky.

Thanks to JohnnyCheese, i have a spare set of TB's, complete w/reg etc

Thanks to a tip from DaveO, i have an adj regulator.

let the testing begin

Karl, the vac lowers the fuel pressure in the rail at an idle.

Note that you can reduce the injector duty cycle by increasing the fuel pressure, if that's still a concern for you. High pressures also help with fuel atomization to some degree. Also note that bikes with in-tank regulators (most Suzukis and Yamahas, recent Hondas and Kawis) don't use a vacuum line to reduce line pressures at idle/high vacuum conditions. As long as you have a way to control mixture at idle (e.g., PC3R or reflashed ECU), a vacuum line should not be required.

FWIW, some F1 FI systems use ~100psi line pressures. Some of the factory AMA Superbike teams were doing research in that area until the as-homologated fuel pump rule was implemented this year.

Hey Karl, you can increase FP by putting pressure to the vac line. KCadby did that to Johns bike for a dry nitrous kit. no PC map changes and the right AFR.....im thinking about trying it

You won't need the vac line Karl. It lowers the fuel pressure at idle. Just leave it open to atmosphere. You can control the fuel with the PC3.

EDIT I should have read all the replies first. Tcchin and Y2K said the same thing I just said.
