new to drag racing and I'm hooked
So a buddy talked me into drag racing and after my first trip I was completely hooked. Prior to drag racing 4-500 mile very fast sport touring Sundays three times a month were very common for me. So needless to say my first trip to the track was humbling and helped realize I need some serious practice. I’m good rider but drag racing is a another animal completely. After 4 trips to the track the best I can manage is a 10.5. at around 137-138 mph. My 60 foot times are all over the place (2.0 -1.8). I ride a 06 ZX14, no files, power commander, Piper cross filter, stock gearing, stock ride height, Yoshi slip-ons and I’m 250lbs or so including gear. I leave at 4k rpm and rolling on the gas as I feather out the clutch but I still seem to wheelie once I can get the throttle wide open and I'm foot shifting. So like everyone else I want to go faster but I have no illusions that I’ll be as fast as guys on stretched out, lowered bikes with drag pipes, air shifters with 140 lb rider etc…..etc….. I THINK a realistic goal for me is a 1 0.0 or maybe a high 9 with the setup I have and the experience or lack thereof that I have to date. One thing I have notice is that there are many little guys on zx14 and Busa that are not that much faster or in some cases slower than me on bikes setup for solely for drag racing. (not sure what the hell that’s about) Needless to say these are not the people I ask for tips and advice. Not that winning is even a concern for me at this point my only Interest is to reach my goal on the bike I have. Any advice you guys could offer will be appreciated

get waaaay up on the tank when you launch, weight as far forward as possible, it will help keep the front end down more then you think it will, so you can leave harder. go 1 down on the front sprocket to start with since you are stock length and still stock gearing.

my first time to the track was a couple of weeks ago. Nothing too great, but i was running 6.70's @ 112 in the 1/8th with low 1.7 60 fts. Not too shabby for my first times ever down a track. It was at Redline Raceway in Caddo Mills tx. The track was hooking up good for me that night. I was running a tomahawk T-3, and not spinning at all. The stretched piped 08 busa there on a shinko said he couldn't hook for shit. Guess more hp isn't always better on the track because i was turning faster than he was lol.
