bottle gauge for hi pressure Muzzy shifter

At Maxton last week it seems my Muzzy bottle got low on the last few passes and footshifting was necessary.

Now i wanna put a gauge on the bottle.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good gauge???

Karl, I'm not sure if the Muzzy you're using is a low pressure or high pressure?

If it's a high pressure(CO2, Nitrogen, Nitrous, etc) you can use a nitrous gauge (nice large view) for the high pressure side or a standard air compressor gauge for the low pressure side. And for just a few dollars you can get either one from Matt at Cycle-Tek.com (they are mini view units, but easy to find a place for). On the high pressure system it's not a big help though as the pressure can still show up around 800psi at your bottle and be about empty in volume (which of course would make the 140+/- psi leading to your solenoid even less relevant for anything other then knowing you have it set right). A low or almost empty(by volume) Co2 bottle can show over 600PSI and barely be good for 3 or 4 shifts if it has less then an ounce left in it(a hard amopunt to measure).

If it's a low pressure system (Matt does have the mini ones of those too or) just grab one from a regular compressor (like from lowe's or a hardware store). The key for low pressure systems is to make sure they are totally refilled before each run no matter how big your tank is and the bigger the tank the better.

By the way, our bikes(except my Sportster until this coming year), have 9 ounce Co2 bottels on them and they have been good for 200-300 shifts no problem. And although I carry 20lb refill bottel with me for other purposes as well, it's less then $2 to fill a 9 ounce bottle at your local paintball store. I reccomend getting two of these (one as a backup) and plumbing one into your existing system. Save the hassle of low pressure for other issues and save your nitrous for your motor. I'd hate for a leak or failure in my shifter to take out my nitrous for the weeknd or vice versa.

On high pressure systems, always measure your bottles just like you do(or should) your nitrous. Cabellas have very nicee inexpenive and accurate hanging scales available.

Todd,
thanks much for the info!

I have the high pressure system, and besides wanting a guage, feel that the 1 # bottle is WAY overkill for a shifter.

Good idea about getting 2 x 9oz bottles

I just sent Matt an email, referencing mr Todd D.

Thanks again

Just looked at my high press. sys....My two gauges look like the ones on the handlebars on dragbikes....The low goes to 200lbs. and the high goes to 2000lbs....I wonder if Grainger sells them....

Grainger carries a full line of Ashcroft gauges. In fact, their selection may be even more extensive than McMaster's.

All I ever order from Grainger is Howard Leight Max Lite ear plugs and Ashcroft gauges. McMaster doesn't like to list manufacturer's part numbers, but Grainger does. So, if I know that I need an Ashcroft 25 1009AW 02L 60, I don't need to call a sales rep and ask for the catalog number, I can just order it directly. Grainger kinda hoses you on S&H, though.

good advice guys!

I don't have a hp guage, but Andy has one and Johnny Cheese has another; they "lend" em to folks for a nominal fee.
