piston prep/mod for nitrous
does anyone have some pics of pistons they have modified for nitrous and or high compression? Karl, VH, KCadby, DM, JC? (anyone i havention mentioned too!) I know that the sharp edges must be taken off to prevent hot spots, and i have seen pics where the thin edge on the intake valve pocket was removed.
I want to make my new JE's extra safe for when i put on a dry kit

Give JC a call, Sunday after 1pm, he should be at his hobby shop. He can help you out a bit on that and recommend ring gap for your application. I would think those pistons will work just fine, most will handle a 100 shot easy and some crazy people have run 150-180 HP shot...............................................but its all set-up and application. If you ever get ARP to cough up some good head bolts for a 12, please let the rest of us know.
Just my idiots two cents.

I have those and had to ream out the billet big block to allow them to fit . Don't know if the stock cylinders accept them.I never found out what to torque them to but was using 80ft/lbs.

Don't have pictures in this computer...
You don't want any sharp/thin edges or corners like around the valve reliefs...
Just round the edges a bit...

Thank you much Jay, your awesome. I'll be sending you a Busa crank on Tuesday to whitle down a litttle. Just curious what the torque spec is on those big 1/2" Busa Studds as well. I currently have the old Heavy Duty MotorHead bolts.
Forgot how perty them pistons look new! Kind of hurts not to put those shiney things on the mantle.

I have CP Pistons that are Almost flat on top. Looking at the CP vs the JE I see that the CP has 2 more Oil Holes more Machinning under the Piston, Longer Skirts with Thicker webbing in the corners at the same weight for the style of Piston. Mine is 0.060 thicker crown. I did very little to the pistons with an Abrasive Rubber wheel on the edges. What convenced me to use CP was the fact that my JE like the JE used in the Bear ZX12R engine the valve pockets were very slightly off center. Not so with the CP> The other reason is when I was Speaking to Cossworth and Mahle (2 Highly respected Piston Makers for Porsche and other Race Engines) The both mentioned CP but never JE

You should be fine with 80 lbs. Some people tell us they pull them down to 100, but I feel that can pull the main bearing bores out of round.

AA, There is an actual name for them but they are for trapping compression like an extra seal. The CP Pistons have 1 groove but it is on the Second Ring Land.

My JE's also have one groove, between the top rings
this is what i ended up doing. removed that thin wall by the IN valve pocket with my dremmel, and rounded all edged and sharp corners with 600 grit sand paper(by hand)
