MSD Ign for ZX14!!!
Been months (again) since I've been here but have GREAT news for ZX14 owners/RACERS!!!
We (MPSracing) did the Dyno and Track Testing for MSD on the new "SB-6" (SportBike-6) Ignition...
VERY cool unit!!!
Does LOTS of stuff...
First off...it's comes with a very nice Wire Harness that connects to the OEM Coils/OEM Harness, Crank Trigger...
It also Taps into the Clutch Switch, Speed Sensor, and has one additional 0-5v. input that can be used to activate timing functions for boost (0-5v.Pressure Sensor)
For testing of the Prototype unit, I used the 0-5v TPS on Jim Hynson's ZX14 to test/see the "Sensor Advance Curve" work and because this unit also DATA LOGS!!!
I also used the throttle position for input because the bike didn't have turbo or NO2 (at that time )...
There is a switched input to active the timing features with switch or relay as well...
The SB-6 has many of the features that the MC-4 has (SB-6 not on http://www.msdpowersports.com/motorcycle.html ...yet...)
Including...programable Shift Kill Time 20-100 M-Sec AND programable delay which preloads the shifter before the ignition kills!!!
2-step for launch RPM is connected to ClutchSwitch...
SB-6 removes and/or adds timing (-20 to +6*)...
Shift Light Output which has "street or Drag" setting...
Street setting: activates ShiftLight at same RPM for every gear, Drag setting: RPM can be set for 5-shift/rpms...
http://www.mpsracing.com will be building/selling an AutoShifter that is activated by the MSD SB-6 ShiftLight Output
SB-6 also has an external POT on it to select multiple timing curves (pre-programed by owner) without having to connect to computer
LOTS of coool stuff...well thought out unit...
We also Dyno/Track tested the SB-6 Prototype for BUSA and have already tested the MPS AutoShifter for SB-6 on that bike (ZX14 already had MPS AutoShifter on it) and it worked PERFECTLY...
BOTH units for ZX14 and Busa worked Flawlessly!!!
The unit pictured is the Prototype...that's why it looks glued together the Production Units look exactly the same without the glue and with SB-6/model, serial number on them

Here is one of the LogGraphs from a test run...
The vertical line that is at 5.50 seconds (numbers at top of graph) is there so you can see what all the lines (Traces) are...see the "File 1 Traces/Analyze" window...lower right of graph...
The line is right at the top of 3rd-gear...

Coool to see the Trottle Position (green Trace) and how it was oscillated because of wheelie/tire spin when launched...
The unit starts recording (saving log) 1-second before launch (vertical line left end of graph is automaticaly set to 0-sec. when bike moves)...
