coated bearings: unequal comparison
the bearings below with just the number were coated, other NOT coated.
BUT
the coated bearings had new Carrillos
and
the coated bearings had a ground strap to the head
NOT apples to apples, but interesting none the less

giant non sequitur, hey i was in photobucket...

Hot Dam Padre, she stole your ring!
Just curious if you may do a coat on the bearings with out a strap, just for grins? Who did the coat job? Will you try the mains next or are they looking good for now?

LOL @JC
Karl, the coated bearings look a lot better, but how much of that comes from the new rods and the ground strap? (and can you explain what the ground strap is connected to plz? cylinder head to....?)

Gary
i haven't run the coated bearings wo the gnd strap and that experiment is not on my list. I wanna get this build ready for our trip to Maxton in June; just waiting on the tweaked head. This week?
You want to take yr rig or the cop car?? Either way is fine w/me. Ryan already has our hotel reserved in Laurinburg.
The two sets of bearings have about the same "experience", prolly 120 4-5sec steps on a FactoryPro dyno, most of em at 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5,10, 10.5, 11, 11.5, 12; a few held at 11k for 15 sec; coated set also have 8 passes at the texas mile.
I had the mains and the pistons coated also but the improvement is not so evident. On that build I was not running coated buckets (time issue). WPC did the coating.
The gnd strap runs from the r side of the head on the bolt which secures the fairing mount/clutch cable guide to the battery gnd. I am pretty convinced that the strap greatly helped that mottling.
how much improvement comes from the new rods & strap? i dunno, but i really like how much better they look. I always used to replace rod bearings, now I am re-using em, saves time measuring stuff.
JC
she did pull my finger but I didn't poot.; Padre has a reputation to uphold.
However, I did offer to take her confession out in my cop car...
At that point my wife asked me how may drinks I'd had, and took away my collar

Karl, the Expedition is my brothers ride. I do not have much in regards to good reliable
transport, Explorer with about 140k miles. I am holding out for another year before
picking up another vehicle. So it might be wiser to use the cop car, I'll bring some lights
and highway patrol stickers.

I do not know which way you normally go to head out to the East coast area, but I should be able to make it down to Houston with the bike and trailer if thats easier.

Karl, I'm getting old, so you'll have to take it easy on me. We might have to leave a little earlier than midnight though as George (GBusa) wanted me to pick up a souvenir T-shirt
for him from Vider, TX!
Anymore exotic coatings for you this next motor build? Piston skirts, dome, cam buckets, valves, chamber?

whatever time on wed nite you wanna leave is fine with me.
I don't know that Vidor has a tourist shop, but i can understand why George might not wanna go pick up his own T shirt...

"Vidor was one of hundreds of communities in America known as "sundown towns," places where blacks were not welcome after dark. In some of these towns, signs -- handwritten or printed -- were posted, saying things like "Whites Only After Dark." But in general, sundown towns existed by reputation. Blacks knew they were places to avoid after dark."
