You know I have been thinking about this problem all weekend, and I just cant see how that thing was toasted in 5 passes, did you check your needle bearings on the clutch puller shaft, do they move around smooth? I can see trashing one but not in 5 passes? you might want to look into this one deeper?

I previously posted to some detail about this problem.....I just saw this thread again. There is two things happening here.....

1) Increased spring pressure(I use Schnitz springs all 6) increases the metal to metal friction and the pin wears into the pull lever. The bearings are not the problem because upon initial engagement the lever contacts a spinning pull pin. This causes initial wear.
2) Clutch cable set too tight will also cause this as there is constant mild contact allowing the pull pin to wear in.
3) The pull pin is not always free inside the clutch hub. I have my first failure after install the muzzy hub. The pull pin froze in the hub. The pin had to be taken to a machine shop to be removed and then the hole had to be redrilled for the pin to fit.
4) The metal of the level is too soft so the fix of billet or stain less steel is good. However the pull pin will wear out now.
5) I have had to exchange about 4 of these so far, and have simply included it into my normal wear out list!

It can be very dangerous however, because when mine first failed it was during a run at the track. The pull pin lodged half in the pull lever leaving the clutch pack "OPEN" at the top of 2nd gear. Then as I was trying to figure out what was happenning, at over 100mph, the pin released and the clutch engaged and locked up the back tire!!! So, my point is take this seriously!

Agreed 5 passes is a little too quick. needle bearing are probably bad, or the
center puller shaft is sticking inside the basket shaft.
I can't think of any other way to break it that fast.
I still think muzzy may benifit for adding a billet puller rod in the kit.
I'm not saying the kit is bad, just that it puts more pressure on the stock
parts than they APPEAR to be able to take.

One More Thing...

Different clutch pack thickness will make the puller contact the rod at a different angle...causing it to wear early...

I took the lockup off my bike until a stronger replacement is available. Ryan told me as long as you dont pull in the clutch at high rpm it should last but I'm not going to deal with it.
