scott,
its too late this time, but next time you pull down a motor, try putting the pistons in the block, then put the rods onto the crank.
about 10 million times (conservative estimate) easier than getting the block down onto the pistons after the bottom end is buttoned up.

That like telling a little kids something is hot, until they touch it the first time they don't understand.
You have to have done it both ways to fully understand that statement!

yeah... that wasnt fun, even with help. ill definatly try it the other way around for my motor. especially since i have less chambfer at the bottom of my block. i was just following the manual.
the rest was a great time however
more done today:

we made our own block off plates out of the stockers and some JB Weld. very simple to do.

just a couple oil pipes and a couple sensors to go. the clutch basket will be welded when we get the oil pans done. (Muzzy basket kit)
drilled the rivets out of the stock basket and put the gear core on the billet basket. you cant screw up the springs as they only fit in one place, they are all different except the 3 tiny ones which are the same. had to drill out the back plate for the larger HD Muzzy rivets

last night i drilled out the clutch hub to match my muzzy hub (which i believe is pretty much the same as the 02 up hub) it doesnt have the machining to let oil to the hub, but ill modify the rod (the flat spot trick) to get the oil to the inside of the hub, then it will go thru the holes to the clutch plates... cheap and easy :P
tonight we got the motor flipped over for Woppi, and have just about all the wiring harness plugged back in. the fuel system is back on too. we need to get some header wrap, then finish it up. hopefully if everything goes well it will be running on the wknd

i know my pan isnt perfectly straight, but check out the ground clearance on this thing!!!! the forks are strapped down pretty good now, but can go more yet. the back can go down more too with different links.
oh, anyone have a PC map for the head work and sidewinder???
thx!

ITS ALIVE!!
we fired it up tonight. the muzzy sidewinder with no baffle sounds just plain evil. love it.
we put oil in the filter, and then put another 5.4 litres into the bike. the oil level is pretty close to the top of the sight glass. im very happy with the added volume on the home made pan
no leaks or drips, no funny sounds we brought it up to temp and reved it up to 5-6000 a couple times(short bursts) and then shut it down till it was cooled off. brought it up to temp again and went thru the gears on the stand, brought it up to 8000 (holy shit is it ever loud!) a few times, then shut it off for the night. going to finish up the plastics and airshifter and start building my motor..
3:40 am... i gotta go to bed :P

got a bit done, we were distracted by future jr dragster drivers
my neices up on grandpa's "momocycle"

just a bit more trimming on the plastics so the pipe isnt touching and so we can get at the last clutch cover bolt. ill probly cut more off the plastics on the bottom too. the pan has 4 inches of ground clearance at the lowest spot, and the plastics have 2... need to go lower!

the FI light is indicating that theres a problem with the air inlet pressure sensor...maybe because i had the wires for it and the TPS switched when i first fired it up(oops) ?? it seems to run fine for no mapping.... im going to try swapping with the sensor on my bike to see if that solves the problem, if not ill test the wiring..

How could you do something so silly, where was your mind. Damn!
Those were my thought when I did that, and you just made me relive it.
I wish I had been smart enough to start a thread like this when I was learning this bike
it would have saved my lots of time and money.
