Pc3r issues (again)

I recently had my PC3R replaced once under warranty, the original one died after having weird problems like corrupted map data, inability to connect on a consistant basis and finally the bike wouldn't start with it connected. Well now I can't connect to it (the new replacement PC3R) again, although the bike is running fine. Is anyone else having these symptoms?

Last time I programmed it, I could not establish a connection with the key in the on position, the bike had to actually be running to get a connection with the laptop and upload or download a map. This was about a month ago, and it had been running fine since.

Today, I went to modify the map for nitrous (pull back out the 5 degrees advance timing and add some fuel up top) but I can't even get a connection to the PC3R. I've tried two laptops, two serial cables, reinstalled the latest version of the software that I downloaded off the web, tried it with the key on, tried it with bike on, every comport setting possible, nothing. A test light indicated it is getting power and the LEDs do their dance when the ignition is first turned on, however one thing I noticed is that when I rev the bike the LEDs dont move up or down they are just in the lowest/lean position? I thought I remembered them fluctuating when revving the bike before? Maybe another symptom of a bad unit?

I'm almost scared (ops! did I say skeeered! dontbescared ) to spray it without adding more fuel to the map. Schnitz dry kit #34 jet (40hp) on Muzzys/JE pistons.

So after giving up on using the laptop I tried adjusting the high fuel bar up to the highest setting on the faceplate manually by holding down the three buttons while turning the key on then pressing the high button and moving the bars up. That appears to have worked because when I repeat the procedure I can see the high bar is now up where I left it, but now I'm wondering if the box is even doing anything at all?

Last time my PC3R went bad the bike wouldn't start at all when it was connected. This one it runs but wont connect and I'm not sure if it's doing anything?

What do you think? Send it back again for replacement? My real question is should I Spray it anyway? Will the ECM be able to compensate for enough fuel if the PC3R isn't working on a 40-shot dry kit?

RAC, from what I remember KingZX12 said about the dry shot is that even if all else fails, the bike will go into "cold start mode, which supplies more than enough fuel for it.

My 3r gave me troubles from the initial install. I simply installed it without putting in a map. Wanted to see how it ran on the "0" map at first. The bike carried on horribly and stalled so I ended up having to get towed home.
Pulled up the map on the laptop and everything was skewwed! After that I never had problems. Ill admit I hadnt played with the settings that often. I made changes through the laptop only. Perhaps the wires on the port came loose? (inside the 3r)

Does your sponsor have the "tuning link" software? I would see if that could communicate with the box first. Maybe check to see if any wires are chaffed? Is the 3R velcroed to the subframe or something prone to vibration? I put a piece of foam under mine to dampen any possible vibration.
BTW, did DJ give you a new 3r or just fix your old one??

pciiir

I always pug the serial cable in while the bike is running and the laptop is already booted up. If you cannont reduce your ign advance to at least standard i wouldn't use the nos.

I have it ziptied to the rear subframe with velcro inbetween, might be getting vibes I don't know. I do know that it doesn't work and this is my 2nd unit (the first was replaced not repaired by Dynojet). I will call them this week and see what they can tell me. I did talk to a guy today who runs another dyno shop locally with a DJ250 w/sniffer and he said they have experienced as high as 40% failure rate on PC3/PC3Rs recently. To quote him "it's a crapshoot as to weather it will work or not or for how long"..

Just wanted to let everyone know that I spoke with Dynojet and they are sending out a replacement unit right away. They received my defective PC3R however said they could not find any problems with it and had no problem connecting to it? However they are willing to and offered to send a "new" replacement which I thought was great customer service considering some vendors might have given a person a hassle if they can not duplicate the problem, so I give Dynojet two thumbs up for honoring my claim and supporting their product.

No matter what...you should be able to 'find' the PC when the bike is running...
Did you get a custom map yet???
Be VERY careful!!!
Timing (too much of it) is...YOU WORST NIGHTMARE with NOS!!!
I would have been doing a plug check after the dyno runs (or street testing) if I were you...looking for ANY signs of detonation...damage will be done LONG before you hear it...
Not trying to sceeere you...I would MUCH rather be safe than sorry though...

We ordered the Muzzy's fuel pump for John's bike, I also decided to go with one progresive stage instead of the 2-stage...can't wait to get it done but I'm waiting for the pump and controler to get here...
I'll map it with the new pump...then...PSHSHSHT it ...

John has run some high 9.50s with 1.57/58 60fts and some 6.20s in the 1/8 now
I think that's good for him considering the summer air we've had here...
I got three 1.48 60FTs last sunday at JAX...considering that I'm "up to" 175lbs now I was very happy with that...

I didn't say it in your NOS thread (too freekin busy) but...I would get the #15300NOS nozzle if I were you, it puts out a nice fan spray that will go forward instead of at the floor of the air box (the angle that you have on yours might work OK with it)...
also...Wayne (kingzx12) said it's possible to ice up the filters if the NOS is sprayed too close to them...
It will disperse into the air box much better with the fan spray nozzle...
