madmike,
Hell, you should try running some oil in the engine (lol). Not that it's a laughing matter!!!
Those sorts of photos bring a tear to my eyes.
Do you check oil for "gold" after racing? What sump do you run? Anything worth noting in the pick up?
Only seen that sort of torture twice. Once when the pickup was full of 3 bond and once when the sump was shortened.
Just curious as to the history of how it got that way.

Ouch. Damn.
Mike did you document what the bearing clearances were when assembled? If so look back at your file and see what you had the mains at.
How were the rod bearings?
Is your screen in the pickup clean or is there crap blocking it?
What pan and pickup are you running?
There was a heat issue for sure. But why?

The scary part is you probably didn't hear it! Can anyone add metal to the bearings surfaces and then have it line bored? I would think adding metal for the thrust wear ring would be easy enough.

MM, usually when we see a Flat tire we can say it is only flat on 1 side! I cannot say that your bearings are only bad on 1 side!! It looks like sonething got in there and "Started" the Damage then the rest was history
AA. in Car engines where there are oversize bearings, they would assemble and torque the cases and align bore them and put in larger OD Bearings. On Peggy's 911s that has Mag cases this was done several times and I have the last set of 3 over bearings in the world that I got from Tazmania and I Ain't selling!

great pix, Mike!
alot of folks talk about "spun" bearings when they really mean damaged bearings.
Mike knows how to spin em!

Nice post-mortem images.
Sorry to view your once proud motor, but if you don't break a rew, you're not trying hard enough.
You certainly did apply a new finish to all those once shiny and/or smooth surfaces.
I don't visit this forum often, but I'll presume you're going to rebuild..or rebuild UP perhaps.
Happy New Year and best of success in 2K8.

Karl is right, this motor has been sitting around for a moon or two... and the top end is great! the pistons, block and head off of this motor took my bike to 196mph at the texas mile in October...
A little background about this motor, it was built strong and run hard, very hard for 2 full years, and well over 1200 dragstrip passes on it. and I ran right behind Osti33 at the texas shootout, and I felt the bearing spin so I shut the bike down right away! but it looks like it had been starting to go bad for a while? I actually was going to drop the motor and put all new bearings in it after this race... and dynoed the motor at Johnnie Cheese the day before this happend, so his dyno probably killed it...
but on the bright side I caught it before it broke a rod, which from the way everything looked was not to far away!!!

the strangest thing to me is the main center journal and how half of it looks great and the other side is beat to shit! I have to think there is something wrong with my crank? the 4 rods that came off were good, so it was only the main's
and the bike had "plenty" of oil and I used to run Kendell GT-1 20-50 oil... and I change my oil every 2-3 races and never noticed any "gold" but I think if I would have sent my oil in to be checked out, I would have probably know something was going bad...
and this was my 1361 ZX12 motor. and I am not sure what I am going to do with what is left yet? up in the air for sure... I have to see if the crank is even any good... if not it will be an easy decision.
and Karl is correct even though the motor was bad... I still took first place in the best looking sportbike!!! they did not make me start it...
and someone has photo's of what the oilpan looked like when we dropped the pan that night, Karl, Ryan?

1200 passes MIGHT have had something to do with it...
Mike,
if you were thinking of sending the crank to Marine for "checking", IMO save the shipping costs and mount it prominently in yr garage (a trophy of sorts), or bring it to:
Scrap Processors Inc
306 SE 5th St
Des Moines, IA , 50309-5116
Phone: 515-283-1707
Looks like all 9 journals need repair.
A couple years ago, I sent my billet crank to David and he said junk it rather than have all 9 journals repaired.
