i didnt change the expansion chambers any, just the muffler after the pipes go to a constant diameter(then enter muffler) i was told altering the pipes this way was fine, that it would only affect noise not the design of the pipe if the expansion area wasnt changed. i just we pretty much copied a set of pipes on a drag sled of a friends. a set of pipes that once they get down to a constant size, they are just running out of the cab, no muffler
when it was running good, the plugs read great, a nice cardboard brown colour. it just worked good some of the time. makes me think it was the computer more and more....
(putting the muffler on will require cutting and welding....)

Certain race pipes are made to run with no muffler or stingers. Most stock snowmobile exhausts are designed as a system. The muffler back pressure works with the pipe(s) as a system. I know people that have gutted snowmobile mufflers and lost up to 1/3 of their power. I don't think this has anything to do with you burning her down, but it may. I was pointing this out because you seem to be the kind of guy that wants max performance from his stuff.(like me)

i am that kind of guy lol see the part where im thinking about putting a 1000 triple motor in it instead :P
when it was running good, it ran just as good as allways (as far as i could tell) still burrying the needle in the speedo past 100, only it was waaay louder, just the way i like it.
