The answer depends:

pros- close to three pounds removed, seems to accelerate better

cons: more vibration as the bike now feels like a busa

I would do it if your already in the motor but just to do it i wouldn't bother.

if you had your crank balanced, I would try it, but Im no expert. Im leaving mine in as my crank wont be touched. if/when i stroke my crank down the road and get it balanced, i will try no balancer then

we have the same religion

heres my 2 cents (canadian at that lol) from the factory, some cranks would be balanced better than others to some extent, since it is/was a mass produced crank. some guys might get lucky and have a really good one while other guys would get one thats well within the acceptable limits for a factory crank, but not as good as one balanced professionally by falicon or marine or ape. the "good" factory crank might be just fine without the balancer, but the "ok" factory crank might need to be balanced by a pro before it can be run without the balancer for a long and problem free life.
(it makes sense to me anyway, im no builder, but im working on that :P)

The counterbalancer has little to do with how well your current engine is balanced or will be balanced. It´s purpose is to counteract imbalance with the engine running, not just spinning. I couldn´t tell the difference with mine removed.

As krexken said, the counterbalancer has little to do with the static balance of the crankshaft assembly; it is a dynamic device that operates at twice the frequency of the crankshaft. I have never noticed any difference in vibration levels or reliability in any of the motors from which I've removed a counterbalancer.

Because I was not speaking for Doug, I was only summarizing my experiences with the motors I've built.

ah, I wasnt paying attention to your wording. all this got me thinking about going with the muzzy dummy shaft again. i went a little trigger happy with the search button and found some good posts on this subject.

http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=1&TID=9425&set_time=1068616111
after reading that, and understanding the concept better, i think i might try out no balancer. its what, a $20 part from muzzys to make it really easy.

I pulled the ballancer in my ZRX and wish I would have left it in. More vibration everywhere. At the track I don't notice it but on the street it get quite annoying.

Mines out, not much difference in vibration. I Don't think its worth it unless your going
all out and need that extra tiny, tiny, tiny bit of HP. Becareful not to nick the O-ring while
slipping it in.
