gearing for Nos in the qtr???

Should i gear my bike to go thru 5th on motor and 6th on NOS or 4th on motor and 5th with NOS? I'm currently running with Nos upper 5th gear@155 mph and the bike just gets into 5th without NOS. 16-51 gearing 218 lb's with gear.

wow ! I run 16-49 on motor and it runs through at the top of fifth. You should run different gearing for both, top of fifth for whatever your combo is. If you want to run motor you should change geaing for motor only, I am getting ready to spray mine and it looks like I will be running 17-47 for spray and 16-47 or 48 for motor only. 16-49 wants to shift to sixth at the line some times so I am going to bring that up some.

my understanding is that you want to get as many gears in as possible. NOX was running killer times on a stock motor with his setup and trapping in 6th
just wondering about the od gears, whats it like shifting from 4th to 5th compared to stock?

Thats a tough one because of your 5th & 6th gears. Hmmm. Really the only way to figure it out is to gear for BOTH....meaning bring some sprockets and see what et you are running when you trap 4th on motor near the limiter....then try spraying it. You have a couple of variables you're working with, maybe it would be best to leave the bottle home for this initial test? Then you can test all spray runs to see what the bike in terms of gearing.

Good luck....sounds like some fun testing.....w/the occaisional wheelie!

I really can't say how its different compared to stock on the 4th to 5th gear change. However, with the od gears it makes a big difference because you can really gear it short for acceleration and still have a nice top end and relatively low rpm's at cruising speeds. Od gears i would consider as one of my very best mods due to the above reasons.

Furthermore, those pesky gsxr's that are so strong on a roll on are no problem anymore. You pull on them right away and still have a better top end!

Nox or any other of the Gurus of drag, what say you fellas gear it for 5 or 6 with and without bottle.

Great suggestions so far keep them coming.............

5fth gear, I have tried gearing on many bikes from motor bikes to nitrous bikes and turbos, the more hp you have the taller the gearing the bike wants, they want to pull, I have lost e/t and mph with too short of gearing using 6th in the 1/4 especially on nitrous and turbos, turbos really really want to pull tall gears.

I'm at 17/52 going through at the top of fifth, stock motor.....If I had NOS on it ,I would leave the gearing alone and go through in 6 th gear....BUT,you'd have to try it and see where you end up at on the track....Depends on the size of NOS shot, shift points,weight,,ect.ect......Where are you planning on hitting the NOS....start,1st,2nd.....JMO.

I plan on using it in first gear with my progressive controller, maybe start out with a 25-30 hp hit in first gear and about 2.2 seconds have the rest come on in second. I've got a 48 tooth rear sprocket lying around i think i'll try that as well.
