Hi nox.

What made you look at them. That's aways a good bit of info for when you're trying to work things out. Like, no real reason, there was a performance drop, there was a noise?

Look's big time lean. Personally, I'd be pulling the top off and looking at the pistons and chamber. Pistons for heat damage and combustion chamber for indication of lean.

I'm curious about the thread as well. bottom looks like it's been exposed to the chamber? Top is just way clean.

Cheers,

Wolf

brand new plugs, all 4 look like that or worse.

just put this latest "experimental" motor together, and it started popping under dyno load.

to make a very long story short, head is coming off tonight.

and the prize goes to TimChin and JohnnyCheese

Both weighed in with the suggestion that the pistons were hitting the plugs.

Just pulled the head and all 4 pistons show clear marks.

It ain't nuthing a big hammer and hacksaw cain't fix.

My daughter sent a brunette Barbie (BB) to help those 2 ditzy blonds in the garage.

BB insisted I take a couple pix so she could show off her designer safety glasses

It is back making noise this morning

No problem with reuse. If it were a nitrous motor a little massage on the sharp edges might be in order.
Karl, how far out the hole are those pistons?
Are you going to releave the piston or drop compression?

G. & P.
correction, pistons are about flush with the block; .031 min quench height.

I took a dremel to those pistons sat night in a 10pm to 10am marathon. Added .030-.040" clearance under the plugs and smoothed some sharp edges. Bike is making good noise but dydno will tell...
