Digital head porting...

Having been looking at the hayabusa port in a Mastercam surfacing program for hours and being an SAE paper junkie, I've decided to develop the busa port 100% digital.
Having solid dimensional numbers of an object really is nice. It allows direct numerical manipulation. This morning it dawned on me,... damn this is cool. The shit I can now do.

I'll be in Charlotte NC at Penskes shop checking out Optimums software in october. Optimums Automated Design and Virtual 4 Stroke software. Maybe get some seat time with it and check out its functionality.
It seems to be way better than dynomation and the others.

Have any of you guys seen or used Optimums Automated Design software?

Nox,

It's like a cartoon of the inside of the port in a real time 3-D world...

So you can see what way the air flows thru the port, then you add fluid dynamics to it and make some changes and now your flowing more air thru the port. And it's right, with out the guess work.

It's like a wind tunnel in reverse.

Catia V-5 stuff. I deal with all day at work.

Nox,

click on the link, you will see a picture with different colors that look like a moutain. just think of that as the inside of the port. the reds area is hi pressure area and the blues are the lows. now with the computer you can change it up and get it to have all red and make it flow like crazy. No more sitting at a flow bench with clay and a dreamel tool trying and guessing... It does it all for you at the hit of a button.

Well the busa head is done!!! I'm going to sponsor the board on the backpage so I can tell you guys about it and not break the rules.

But heres a flow chart for now. This is the stage 1 intake port. Only .005" of material is removed from 90% of the port. Cross sectional area is very carefully controlled to maintain velocity for street use. You need to run a higher lift exhasut cam thou to run this head.
The ports were based around the megacycle stage 2 cams. But as you can see higher lift cams will work well.
The stage 2 intake port is in the works now.

Jim,
brown truck should get there today or tomorrow.
I hope against hope that you and Bill wil be able to work yr magic on that head.

New Carpenter 62# springs are on the way.

I'll need all new valves & seals with new guides for #4, and at least 2 new seats.

Should I send you a headgasket so you can look to unshrouding needs???
(the offset block has its special needs)

OK, sounds good.

If you want us to unshroud the valves and lay the chambers back we can do that also. Its about 1.2 cc increase in volume on the busa chamber. Would be very similar on the 12r head.
Yes we would need the head gasket for the offset block to do this.

Damn, its too bad I dont have the zx12r head done yet in digital. How soon do you need this head done? If you dont need for a while (few months) then I can digitize it and do it digital.

Jim,
I will send a head gasket so you can look it over. I really want to take the min material out possible becasue the deep pockets already have my cold cranking pressure down to 270psi. In any event when you get the head we can talk. I'd like to get that head back as soon as is convenient for you as i want to get on with the big valve head testing.

Nox,
I am the one who rides the short yellow bus, not the offset block

I would love to, but I dont think its going to happen. I might make it to Maxton next season, but Texas is a long drive from New Brunswick Canada. (it borders Maine) Im guessing most of the race fund will go towards building the bike into a monster....I still have a stock motor! LOL

KZ, i'm going to do a regular bore spacing 12r head first.... then do the offset chamber version. its not really that big of a deal to do the change in bore spacing.
