Muzzy lockup......Nox and racers...

On the Muzzy two stage lockup....any thoughts on starting with one weight as advised by the lockup manual ...or going with no weight to start.. . not sweating it.. just alway open for good info...

not sure how much difference one weight will make...not much choices in total really.. either no weights or 1 or 2 or 3 .. thats it .....as far as I can tell...

Got new clutch fibers and steels have been gone over.. oiled each fiber and steel individually and tested on street..works fine so far.. yet to try on the track...

Sunday and Monday is the maiden voyage...

Win lose or draw...plan to have fun and adjust as needed....

You have a 3 arm clutch, you must run the same amount of weight on each arm...........

Send me a pm, and tell me how many springs are in your clutch and we will talk.

60 ft looks fine to me for that setup. Must be locked up to get that so that looks fine.

What's the mph? That will tell if there's some minor slip at top.

We've found if you use a full synthetic oil, you can get a small amount high speed slip with no tell tail on the plates. A few mph. Hurts half track to full track.

Salsa...How much Drag Racing experience do you have???

About 80 - 100 passes I think..... not sure.. have not raced ever year..want me to count my time slips?

Started with a ZX-11 back in 1990.. progressed to wheelie bar solid strut with it .. all kinds of gearing changes... ran a racing round profile slick but never came together for me really...had a few good launches with stock clutch... ZX-11 clutch is almost bullet proof.. but the bike was too heavy to get into nines so I kinda gave up along the way..

been racing the 2004 ZX-10R in stages.. first year (2004) totally stock .. second and third year (2005-2006) got a 7 inch swing arm and slammed front and rear lowering links and front straps...have placed second place trophy's in Saturday night shoot outs twice...managed a few 9.7's at 143 xx mph ..

Have tried all kinds of gearing changes along the way.. lowering more each time...

(2007 ) broke an oil pan from the lowest gearing set up on a sudden wheelie early this summer.. but man she was responsive off the line...I decided to go slick and wheelie bar for this latter part of summer...

got a data logger and o2 sensor to monitor my air fuel ratio now .. do my own tuning...still learning from it...running U4 fuel , BMC race filter, removed secondary flies. full muzzy stainless steel exhaust.. power commander.. and two more rear sprockets to play with .... (need new sprockets for tall slick)

Mickey Thompson 7" slick, two step, Muzzy lockup, pingel air shifter with co2 conversion with two 9 oz bottle to keep me going...got most every thing tested at home just lately...

need to try the wheelie bar and see if it works well..I modified existing which was meant for a stock height and stock wheelbase... been a pain to set up properly.. had two lower bars made to accommodate my 7" swing arm extension and not been easy to get it like I want it yet...

will keep on working it until I get something that will launch good.. need to be at the track to see how she does...and take it from there...truth is it may not work as I have it.. I know be careful!!...

Been planning to run lockup with no weights as many would recommend and that makes sense to me...but the manual recommends " start with with one aluminum weight bolt and nut"

bit confused now cause either I need to run all three arms equally weighted or they are advising running a single weight aluminum bolt and lock nut on only one arm?

I am sure this is simple but their wording and advise given from this forum ( all three arms equally weighted ) sounds inconsistent....

which one is it then...I only have 3 aluminum weight bolts and lock nuts that comes with this lockup if I am not mistaken...

thanks...

oh I see parts list have 3 steel and 3 additional aluminum bolts...just saw that.. (11:18 Friday Night)

I bought this lockup used and I only have 3 bolts sent to me .. need to check if aluminum or steel.

but thats all I have either way...may not need any weight.. have not tried anything yet...

Everyone is different but I say you should put more seat time in and dial yourself into your bike with the least amount of mods!!!...That's just my opinion...

With all the mods and changes you continually make your making it harder on yourself to ride and go fast @ the DragStrip...Not to mention all the unnecessary $$$ your spending!!!

No offense Crotchrocket have heard your theory's before.. I am happy with what I have to do...

my work is cut out for me I know...I am smart enough to handle what I am doing.. but thanks.. I appreciate any experience the forum can share.. been helpful...

part of the challenge and beauty is building the bike by myself...it's better than hanging out at the bar if you know what I mean...am proud of what I have done so far...

I am a design outdoor electrical engineer and I also deal with steel lattice structures and construction in a large high voltage utility outfit...

this is my speed....money is no problem...I ask a lot of questions and call the manufacturers as well .
I do my homework asking on different forums for resident experience...not stumped at all...a forum junkie for the last 5-6 years or so...I usually can sort out what works......lots of info around.. you know that...

do need seat time.. no doubt...

Crotch rocket, your theory is fine for streetbikes, but he is going to run a bar bike, it CAN NOT be done right with a normal clutch, at least not fast, smooth and quick.
