advice on bike purchase

greetings bikeland....

not sure if anyone remembers me from ealier this year, but i started drag racing my cbr600 f3 at the beginning of this season, and i'm looking to upgrade here in the next couple months. i got some good advice from this forum, so i came back looking for more. i've gotten to the point were i'm pretty comfortable on my bike and i'm looking to go faster. i'm at the point where i'm getting low 1.7/high1.6 60's which i think is pretty decent on a swb 600. my best to date is an 11.13 @120 w/ 1.67 60'

i've been riding for 4-5years now on mostly 600's and i'm pretty cool-headed when i'm riding on the street. i know it'll take some time getting used to almost double the power, but i think i've got enough self control to keep the right side up. like many before i'm sure, i'm looking at the liter bike vs big bike debate. specifically i'm looking at used busa's and gixxer1k's. the busa obviously has the parts availibilty advantage and i think they're going to be just plain easier to drag race than a 1000. i've also seen a drop in market value with the zx14 being around, as well as the 08 right around the corner. that being said, i'm about 165 suited and i think i could take advantage of the liter bikes lower weight. i also think that a 1000 could make me a better rider in the long run seeing as clutch control is a tad more important as apposed to something like a busa. coming from a 600, i'm already fairly comfortable with riding my bike like i hate it, so maybe i'll pick up riding the 1000 easier?

originally i was pretty set on a busa mainly for the comfort issue, but i've decided that i'm going to keep my cbr for road trips and sunday morning lake runs. i haven't put anything more than tires, gas, and oil in my cbr and i really dont think it's worth it to get rid of it. that being said, i'm no longer quite as concerned with ergo's or handling.

any thoughts or advice is welcomed, thanks guys!!

Why not get a 14?? at your size I would think a 1000 would be better but if your keeping the CBR then you dont really need a bike for the twisties so get a busa or a 14

My vote would be the Busa.Tons of used and new parts and has a separate cylinder block.I hate the 12 and 14 frame which makes it a pain in the ass.For your weight, you couldn't go wrong with the zx10 or the Suzuki 1000 also.If you are looking for a track only bike, you may want to consider dragbike.com classifieds for an already built bike if you are on a budget.

as for the 14, i honestly just cant settle for the looks. i know they're fast and respond well to mods, but not enough for me to let the looks slide. and like aliveagain mentioned, the frame situation on the 14's. i have a buddy with a 14, and i dont even wanna change the spark plugs on that bitch, lol.

not really looking for a dedicated track bike at the moment. i learned that lesson when i was building a race car. it was nice being able to take things a little farther without worrying about emmisions, driveability, etc, but i always missed having a street car. i know i'll have the 600 still, but i dont think i'll be satisfied. also, i still do street stuff from time to time, so thats something to think about.

so both of you guys would tend to lean towards a busa (putting the 14 aside) if you were in my position. besides the parts availibility, care to go into detail a little further?

thanks for the responses!!

Because of your weight or lack of(165),either Suzuki or Kaw 1000 would be good because of the lower weight on either bike.Your power to weight ratio would be better than some guys on a Busa.Problem might arise that at the track it will wheelie faster on you unless you extend the swingarm. You mentioned that you'ld like it for the street also.Any extension on the swingarm will negate the turning prowness a stock bike may have.Plus,I'm not a fan of the single piece cylinder casing on the 1000's,but it's the sign of the times.
The busa is noted for it's down low torque which may make it easier to launch and the skies the limit as far as building a bigger motor.
Personally,in your case,if a good deal comes around, you'll find the decision made for you.

you've got the same idea as me as far as the weight thing goes. i'm going to give the stock wheel base a chance for at least a little while, but i plan to stretch whatever i get, so no biggy. i'm still going to ride it on the street, but i'm not too concered with the handling honestly, thats a big reason why i'm keeping the cbr.

a good deal will probably be the deciding factor like you said, although i'm leaning towards the 1000 at the moment. but of course, i'm sure i'll change my mind 13 or 14 more times before i write a check lol.

thanks again, keep it coming!!
