houston rain, rain, rain... no track time
goddamn it, bike is ready to go and i wanna test the Muzzy shifter and nox's clutch set up but the fukken rain keeps coming.
I'll send my big valve head to Y2K to get it flowed, and TimChin gave me a tip on coatings so i will send off my pistons today do another experiment
I ran outa garage stuff to do in prep for my next build. what to do, what to do...
fukken rain

Just don't do any research on coatings, you won't stop with the pistons and don't forget the skirts and undersides, if your doing the tops with ceramic may as well do the cc, ex port, valve faces, and if you have new bearings do them too, than friction coat your valve springs, oil pan and rods and the valve stems with oil shedding coatings.
Wait, that sounds like my project
Send the rain to Florida, we need it. Got a good soaking yesterday, but not enough

Rick,
YIKES!!!!!! Thats too many experiments!!!!
All the stroker 12's i have seen have a skirt scuffing problem, bc the piston comes out of the cyl.
Noonan makes me mini-skirted pistons but they still scuff, so i am gonna try an experiment with WPC + Tin from MICRO-RITE Performance Inc in CA.
I am tempted to coat 1/2 my bearings, leave the other 1/2 untreated and see the results...

By the time Karl builds a bullet proof motor, I will know all I need when my stocker goes........lol
Been raining here too Karl, I am dying to get out with the new shock settings and see how she goes..........

MY CP pistons skirts are coated. Motor is not complete yet (1078 1k) really only expecting to pick up a hp in the head and that is an unknown still but I will able to run pump fuel no problem.
The rest will not show on a dyno likely but real world will but the deal closer was the longer part life and lower temps especially the valve springs.
I detonated the last motor messing with fuel (NM/Methanol)I should not have so just about everything was replaced anyway just another $850 but I beleive will be worth it. The late great Smokey Yunick believed in coatings-thats enough endorsment for me

I think that was the cost for the Pistons and everything associated with that! He most likely had everything else or that was all he ruined!

$850 was for the coatings only. I wish the motor rebuild was only this much
Coating just about everything
Ceramic coated Combustion chambers and exhaust ports
Ceramic coat piston tops
CP Pistons ordered with skirt coating
Oil shedding coating on the undersides of the pistons
Ceramic coated main and rod bearings
Oil shedding coated - carillo rods
Oil shedding coating - valve springs
Oil sheddding coatings - the oil pan
Anti carbon coating on the valve stems
Coating the tranny
And since I was on ceramic fix and already had ceramic wheel bearings I added a set of tranny and water pump bearings too.
No kids, no wife, gf off and on and not too expensive, don't beleive in buying a 30k vehicle I would drive to work and the store and my old one was paid for years ago plus the long work hours I have too have something to justify and spend the $$ on
I have owned a handfull of bikes, the ole 1k just fits me and is so light been painless except when I bought a cf tank or played with fuels I did not know off about but I gotta tell ya NM/Methanol is some fun shit when the bike ran. Nasty stuff, always used gloves and a mask but man it was fun and on a 60 degree or less day can always tell exactly how much fuel was in the tank with the condestation line formed from the NM
Gas milage was like 15 mpg on methanol
Engine life? not very long

MoS2 is great on piston skirts

I was joking about the may 14th post I planted on the "filters...No filters"
"but on the serious side.....have you looked at coatings for internals, pistons etc.
Mo city being so close to Houston . Lots of sources for the exotic....and industrial apps "
not so much for the gain from less friction but for protection from the lack of lubrication
in a few areas. I have seen benifits in industrial apps.
It sounds like it might be good insurance in any stroker.....not that it is a must...
but like Doug said about the steering stabilizer " You dont need it till you need it ...THEN
You REALLY need it ... You the man Karl
