Dry Conditions Greet Bikeland Racers in Maryland

The 3rd annual Bikeland Grudge Race at Maryland International Raceway started following the last session in Jason Miller's Streetbike Seminars Drag Racing school.

The competing riders lined up to qualify for the 8 spots in the Heads-Up round. The race began minutes after qualifying was completed.

In the Head's Up final, Crotchrocket came off the line sideways, and despite a quick recovery and a higher MPH, could not catch up with Buddy's smooth run.

Buddy took the Head's Up title on a Kawasaki ZX-14, running a 9.36 @ 146.29 MPH, and won the Vance & Hines Indy Series Exhaust system. Crotchrocket, the runner up, won the Metzeler Dragtec Tire.

Next up was the ET round. Bikeland's "MadMike" Harris took the ET win on his Kawasaki ZX-12R, winning an Arai Vector Helmet from Arai Americas. In second place was DWB on a black Kawasaki ZX-14. DWB won a Power Commander LCD Display unit from Dynojet Research for his strong showing.

VincentHill won the Kawasaki "Retro" Jacket from KMC in the 50 years or older class. Shiphteey won the Shock Doctor Gravity mouth guard for the biggest wheelie off the line. Entropy won a $100 gift certificate from Brock's Performance. Dahmurf won the bike care kit courtesy Meguiars. Busalover won a $100 store credit from Area P and Jennie won a Techmount from High Gear Specialties.

Rob Muzzys pocketbook remained unscathed as no one took home either of the two $250 cash race contingency prizes offered by Muzzys Performance Products.

With the day's winners decided, everyone made a hasty retreat to the pits to move out as the line up of attendees to the evening's regular Friday Night races were about the bust the gate down. After packing up, a brief gathering commenced at the stage to announce the winners and present prizes.

Bikeland wishes to thank all the Grudge Race sponsors who provided generous prizes, giving the competition more than bragging rights to fight for, and a special thanks to the members and competitors who traveled to attend the event.

Watch for an even bigger event next year, with more racers making the start line. Don't miss out!

VERY cool event, sign us up for next year!!!

Deb just added them up and I got a total of 25 runs on 3 different bikes.

I got to go the fastest times I've ever been on my 1000:
.003-RT
1.69-60'
6.41@117-1/8
9.79@145-1/4

Got to take my wife's daily commuting Busa to it's lowest 10.1 second run
Got to ride, feel the power of and do a nice wheelie on Shane's ZX
Got to hang out racing with my wife and our good friends on many different levels
Got to meet some new people and some damn fine racers
Got to obtain thousands of $ of good habits by simply listening when Jason Miller spoke
Got to race on the best track I've ever seen & still can't get over how nice shutdown is

And I got to loose a very cool 2nd round bracket race with my 10.131 run on my 10.130 dial-in, to Shane's 10.351 run on his 10.350 dial-in because his reaction time was better then mine... teaching me to blow off those that say "reaction time don't mean that much".

My only regret(other then melting my boots and having JohnnyCheese' license plate gash my back open unloading his bike), is that Dahmurf wasn't in condition to ride(due to her broken collarbone)... but it's all good, worked out for the the right reasons in allowing us to obtain ALL that info on video for an extra $100(her fee to be there), and made us decide that we will make sure to get her in one of Jason's classes as well. Anything under $500 is dirt cheap for what we obtained from and had access to in this all day seminar and grudge match session - just awesome all the way around.

Once we get some video compiled and edited(3 different machines and two weren't ours, so it could take a few), we'll host and post some of it for everyone.

Had a great time to say the least, thanks to Shiphteey and Shane661 for turning us onto the Bikeland.org board here, and to everyone for having a couple slow ass Harley riders show up with their metric junk....

Congrats to Buddy, MadMike and all those that had half as a succesful day or learned anywhere near to what we did.

Life is good... racing is better,
Todd(and Debbie)

Had a great time! Inconsistent (hey at least I'm consistent!), some wheelies, some wheelspin but fun nonetheless! Aside from a few botched runs I managed to keep hammering away and ran a mid 1.6 60 ft and a 9.69, my best so far n/a.....A models are bit touchy...

Good talking and meeting with everyone, really had a blast. The sun kicked my ass at the end. Enjoyed talking with Frank and Rick later that evening about launch techniques, theories on what is and isn't possible based on a 12 and x amount of mods. Good times, good food (THANKS FREEK!)

Karl, see you @ TX soon, Round 2!

Harry, see you at Maxton, looking forward to seeing a big man on a big bike at Maxton. Next time I want the hit and set me out 3 bikes for our next run! Haha

To everyone else, had a great time, pleasure meeting everyone.

Buddy....it was nice sticking with you till the 1/8 mile mark....DOH!

Todd and Shane.....be seeing you guys at the strip soon.... no bottles since you guys keep crying....be prepared to bring some $$$ for a side bet on admission!

A.

Thanks to Jason and all attendees for making this a 110% perfect event!!!!!!

And SPECIAL thanks to frEEk/Bikeland for arranging the prizes and picking up expenses associated with the crab whores.

It took Buddy 23hrs, Cheeseman 26 hrs, and me 29 hrs of driving/riding to get home, but i am sure Buddy and Cheese will agree with me that the trip was more than worth it.

Next time Buddy better watch out, i will NOT be having shifter problems

I think the Classes were Just for the "First Timers, Old Timers" and Only "I" Qualified for that extra attention (I put it to full use and plan to do a little more work on this so that maybe next time I can take the same bike and put it into the 10's!!)

Mr. Miller Thank you. If you are ever in the Austin Texas area I will hook up.
Just think not only an open track but a good hot lunch as well.

Even though I didn't get to run I had a blast & learned a ton! Wish I could have sat in on the VH private burnout lessons. That's the next thing I need to learn! Apparently my bike can handle the burnout, I just have to figure out if I can handle it without dropping it or loosing it & making an a$$ out of myself! lol (as if hitting a cone isn't bad enough!)

(See what happens when you don't keep an eye on your bike!)

Jason Miller is top notch and awesome for putting up with my endless questions (and stories). He's a humble man for all he knows and shares very willingly. I know we technically paid him, but I didn't see him hold anything back. It was absolutely awesome that he allowed me to tape all of the seminars. We covered so much that I'll have to watch them a few times over just to absorb it all. The reaction time seminar was one of the best, too bad not too many attended it. But hey, it's my gain towards next year! (Can we sign up for next year yet? )

It totally rocks that I won the Meguiars detail kit! As much as I hate cleaning my bike (I'd rather be riding) right now that's about all I can do with it so I might as well make it look good while I sit on it chanting vroom vroom! Kudos to the sponsors for the awesome prizes!

In all honesty, I think I got more out of the class by not riding. I was able to film everything and go home with good examples of what to and not do.

I think the only disappointment I had was that when I got home I read that the cannolis were fresh out of NY and I opted for a "local grown" brownie. Believe me, I eyeballed the cannolis but figured I'd be good & grab what looked like a smaller less fattening brownie! (Someone has to challenge Ali on the weigh in! LOL) Hearing CrotchRocket's NY accent was like a slice of home! A NY cannoli, well that just would have been perfect! Next year I'll get me one first!

While all the accolades and thanks are being handed out, I want to make sure credit is given where credit is due. To that end: dinner was covered by Bikeland, not me personally, just in case that isn't clear/obvious. Also, huge thanks to MadMike for doing much of the organization. He played a large part in the race coming together. Of course thanks to Entropy for being the treasurer from last year's race.

I personally owe a huge thanks to Vincent for lending me his bike to learn on, providing me with my total beginner's lesson, and giving me the most complete tour of DC you could possibly have in about 2 hours! Of course thanks to MadMike and JC for the offers to abuse their bikes also. I was rather concerned about doing so, but now that I think i have the (VERY basic) hang of it, i'll be comfortable taking you up on such offers should the situation present itself again. Course, i'll now probably be dragging from red lights whenever i get a safe chance, so i'll be a pro by then

I completely missed the R/T seminar. No idea how i managed that?!

Definitely enjoyed meeting everyone there, just a shame i didnt have more time to chat with so many. Will write more about my trip as a whole shortly.

Thanks to all those I spoke to and for the great advice. I have spent all my times racing cars and I can tell you the generosity people showed with their advice was eye opening; you are a great bunch of folks. Jason Miller is the man is all I can say about him!
Despite spinning out and hitting the center barrier at the start of my 5th run AND doing $644 work of damage on the plastics I will have her back together within a couple of weeks and can't wait to race again. Thanks again for a great day.
