Help with Shinko tire knowledge!
Hey all! I am interested in getting into drag racing. I take it SHINKO is what everyone uses right? Well, I've done a search on them and there is many to choose from. What is the differences between them and which is best performance and last's the longest too? I've seen there is 003, Ultrasoft, and many others.
Also, somebody told me they are REALLY THICK rubber which is why people don't mind doing alot of burnouts on them. Is this true?
I know NOTHING about this tire. I've always been into roadracing and Pilot Powers.
All advice and knowledge from you guys is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

You want the 003 or the 003 U-soft.

I've used the 003 for a couple years and it works well for street/strip.
I have the ultra soft now and it also works well. At one time the yokoho 003
was 'THE TIRE' for street tire classes. Shinko bought the patents and mass produced .
They both hook well and last long. You can't loose if you try either one.

Yep, Shinko 190 ultra soft, $120 deliv from Spencer Cycle, can't beat it. Works from 28 to 8 psi depending on torque and track. -Dean

Thanks fellas!
Can any of you make clearer of the statement I was told, that SHINKO's are good for burnouts and racing and shit, because they are THICKER in rubber. Is this true?
Also, how are these on the street between strip runs? They don't look like they're as peaked in the middle as other tires are.
These are my last questions I have about this tire. Thanks.

They are not as good in the twisties because they have a flatter profile. The 180 is not as bad. I have used them on several hard rides. You just have to man handle the bike a little more through the turns. I get about 4k miles on the rear with strip and street duty.

I don't know if they are thicker, but they last a long time while being USED HARD,
and they are very reasonablely priced.
You probably won't notice much for commuter type riding ,but like said before aggresive curves require a little more muscle.

Thanks for your input. That's probably why the person told me they're thicker than others because he knows they last longer on burnouts and hard acceleration compared to the tires I'm use to such as pilot powers which wear fast.

they also make a 180 U soft now, it would be the better tire, lighter, and would make a flatter profile........

You know every one says the 180 has a flatter profile but I have to call BS. Just from what I have seen at the track compairing several biles all next to each other and running 6" rims, the 180's all have a more rounded profile compaired to the 190's. The 190 also measured 1/2" wider contact patch. Just my own observations.

put any 180 and then 190 on the same rim, the rim will pull the 180 flatter....., same tire for tire...., wish they made a 180 mcr..........
Why do you think they are all running the 180 pirellis......, 190 is taller on the 6 inch rim.......
I am still not sold on the shinkos yet on marginal tracks, but I need to try one while testing......
When you gotta have DOT traction, nothing beats the MCR

I know what your saying and for any other tire that would hold true, but with the Shinko 003's the 180 is more rounded. Now the 180 may be just a bit smaller in diameter but is not flatter. I've compaired 4 bikes at our track numerous times. All 4 running 6" rims and Shinko U-Softs. 2 have 180's and 2 have 190's. The 190's are wider, flatter and have 1/2" more contact patch measured. All have no problems hooking though.

zrxdean, have you seen any of this? Contact patch has a lot to do with tire pressure,etc.......
What do you think? 68 " wb, I gotta have traction.........

I'm at 67" on my ZRX running a 190. If track is good I can run about 18psi. If track is bad I drop it down to 15 or lower. One of the 180's I was compairing too was on a 14 and usually run's around 10 psi.

The 190 will not give you a problem at all and the contact patch is better than the 180 but it is all personal preference,Teddy is right on it though...

Mine are listed. I'm still learning. SmokinZX14 pulls 1.38's and 126mph on his 14 all the time on a 190. He goes low 130's on spray.

What track do you race at........
I really want to try one, but I also get pissed if I run over .02 off my dial in.........
Also, I would like to try the 180 because of weight........, the mcr is lighter than the shinko......
What wb is he at?

I use the size 200 Shinko.. probably to big for the track but great for the street for me...As I ride alot on the street too....I get 1.53 60' at the track with too much traction so far...Still getting used to the bike...Stock motor , 68' wheelbase,P/C111R....No lockup, YET......
I think I could go smaller on the tire size if I raced at the track more often....Gainseville Raceway too....

I've used all three sizes on a 12R rim. The 190 is simply a flatter profile and more contact patch at the same PSI vs. either the 180 or 200.
